Outdoor Halloween decorating ideas are such fun to create; this eye catching, scary front porch display will have your trick or treaters doing a double take this Halloween! With a haunting figure of a ghostly girl, gory eyeballs hanging from the ceiling, and even eyeball gummy candies, brave souls will love visiting your haunted mansion to take a look at all the creepy decor!
Selecting a Theme For this scary outdoor halloween decorating idea, an eyeball theme was a frightful and fun choice. Life sized figures with light up features are a popular option for creating realistic looking displays for Halloween; and this Standing Blind Girl made a great central piece for our eyeball theme. This decoration was fast to assemble, with poles that easily connect to a stable stand. We added batteries to activate the figure's light-up red eye feature, which added an extra spooky element! We also selected some gory and horrifying Rotten Eyeballs, which we hung from the ceiling, as well as over our sign. Gummy Eyeball candy was another theme-coordinated choice, and a tasty one!
Creating a Story Coming up with a great outdoor Halloween decorating idea takes some imagination, and a great scary story. In this torturous tale, our Blind Girl managed to capture three unfortunate victims. Their heads, crafted from Styrofoam head forms, some paint and natural creepy cloth, were displayed on pedestals fashioned from large galvanized pails, with the handles removed and turned upside down. We duplicated the look of our Blind girl by using natural creepy cloth to wrap and tie a blindfold on each head form, then painted them to create the illusion that their eyes were also missing. It's clear to see that something quite unfortunate has befallen these poor souls. How did this happen to them? Gory eyeballs peer questioningly at all who pass. Perhaps the creepy Pumpkin Push-In Spiders can offer some "in-SIGHT".
Add in Texture and Layering
Layering is key when it comes to creating a scary outdoor decor display. We started by hanging an extra large deluxe creepy cloth from the window and door frames, using removable decorator hooks. Since the fabric is lightweight, it was very easy to arrange it without worrying about it being too heavy for the hooks. Stretchy spider webs were layered behind the cloth, over the windows, as well as around the faux marble piece. These layers made a great base for the rest of our scary Halloween decorations! Setting the Stage We love the realistic look of this Marble Look Balustrade with Columns it was easy to assemble, and looked remarkably like real marble! It was sturdy enough to hold our display items, including lengths of natural creepy cloth and stretchy spiderwebs. The piece was large enough to anchor the scene, and to hold our three head displays. These were positioned to each be centered above one of the columns. Creepy cloth and spiderwebs were added to the balustrade, as well.
Enhancing with Accessories Using an old wood board, we crafted up a quick and easy sign, with a fun play on words that gave this freakish scene some humor. It read, "EYE wouldn't go in there"; a clear play on words that enhanced this eyeball theme. A couple side tables provided a great spot to place glass jars of candy for trick or treaters to help themselves. We added in a fog machine to create some haunting mist on Halloween night, and we were all ready to entertain the neighborhood with our scary outdoor Halloween decorating ideas!
Don't Forget the Treats! Speaking of treats, these Gummy Eyeball candies were dreadfully delicious, and were a fantastic final touch for this outdoor Halloween decorating idea! They come in green and blue, and are the creepiest candies we've seen! Don't worry, we promise they're as tasty as they are terrifying.
