Root Word Candy Corn Craft and Bulletin Board

Root Word Candy Corn Craft and Bulletin Board

Teaching vocabulary doesn't need to be rote and boring. I am always on the look out for new ways to introduce and engage my students in learning. This year our vocabulary focus is on root words. Teaching Greek and Latin root words sets the students up for success in so many ways. Each week we go over two roots.

The students define the root, draw a picture of it, come up with as many words that they can think of that uses that root word and then apply it by using one of the words in a sentence. As a fun review, I decided to have the students create a candy corn root word craft as a review for all of the root words we have covered so far this year. I feel in love with these Craft Stick Candy Corn Ornament Craft Kits because they come in a pack of 12 and they do not need any glue to assemble! I knew at once that I needed to use them in my class for a fun Fall bulletin board, but I needed to add some content to them. So as a quick center, they used one of their root word bubble and added it to the Craft Stick Candy Corn Ornament Craft Kits using Sharpies from the Sharpie® 80s Glam Marker Pack. The students were ale to quickly create this root word craft and it was a great informal assessment of what they've learned so far.  You know me, I love a cute bulletin board, and this one is a stunner. I added Emoji Candy Corn Magnet Craft Kit pieces to the board since my students love emojis. These add such a festive touch to the board. I am in love with adding fans to create dimension to the bulletin so I knew I had to have these Black Polka Dot Hanging Fans as well as the Orange Tissue Hanging Fans to tie the entire board together. The student love looking at the wall to help them spell or review, which makes my teacher heart really happy!
