Reading Corner: Create Your Own Teepee Themed Reading Corner

Reading Corner: Create Your Own Teepee Themed Reading Corner

Every classroom reading corner needs a little sprucing up as the year goes on. Keep it fresh and fun by updating your reading corner for each season. Take a look at my classroom reading corner transformation.

I started off with a little bulletin board makeover. I used the weathered wood paper, which looks so beautiful. I slid it right on top of my existing board covering, slipping it behind the border trim. By adding the bordertrim to the top of the metal strip and not directly onto the bulletin board you can save time by keeping borders up and just changing out the background paper. I just love the color combo. The orange and brown mixed with the pops of turquoise look so bright and colorful in our room. The brown striped paper fans and orange paper fan added instant color and interest. The pumpkins will easily transition from October to November. In science we are learning all about plants so of course we are talking all about corn. Our science corner is stocked with corn activities and experiments. My students enjoyed a little art time with this simple corn weaving activity. I loved that everything came included and ready to pass out. It adds the perfect touch to our fall bulletin board. I used some chevron burlap ribbon and some colorful clothespins to attach them to the board. This makes it easy to trade out new art work or display student activities quickly. The main focus of my reading corner redo was a new teepee. I was instantly in love with the DIY teepee. It is absolutely my must-have favorite item. It is so well made and sets up easily without hassle. The best part is you can collapse it and set it on a shelf for easy storage. The kit comes complete with stamps and paint if you wish to decorate it. It also comes with cute pom pom garland and feathers, beads and pennants to create your own decor. Just add a couple of fun pillows and an inflatable camp fire and you are all set and ready for some serious reading. My old DIY makeshift tent is on a vacation as my new deluxe teepee has moved into the reading corner. My students all approved they were so excited the day the reading corner was revealed. The ceiling is often overlooked as a great space to add some color and bring height to your theme. To add a little fall whimsy I took silk fall leaves and hot glued them to fishing line. Using paperclips I attached them to the ceiling tiles. They whimsically float and flutter all day creating an inspiring spot for little ones to get lost in their favorite books. Drum roll please here is the before and after.....My kids just can't wait to see what decorations will be revealed for our Christmas reading corner! How will you transform your reading space?
