It doesn't get much more magical than a summer pool party filled with rainbows and unicorns! The pool provides the backdrop and the fun, so you can keep the decorations simple. Just hang some rainbow lanterns from a tree, wrap a table with a rainbow party fringe garland, inflate some pool floats like this giant unicorn and rainbow, and you have a party! A couple simple party favors like these DIY rainbow sunglasses make it extra special for your guests.
We often celebrate my daughter Hazel's July birthday at our neighborhood pool. It's easy, inexpensive and always a crowd-pleaser! This year, my daughter wanted all things unicorn for her birthday party. With the help of some rainbow colored decorations, fun unicorn party favors and giant pool floats, we were able to create the unicorn party of her dreams!
The Party Table
We turned a shaded area near the pool into the party focal point by hanging colored balloon paper lanterns and polka dot hanging decorations from a tree and placing a party table below. To make the party table we just lined a basic fold-up table with a rainbow party fringe table skirt (the adhesive on the top makes it easy to stick to the table!) and added a unicorn garland along the top.
Rainbow Table Runner
A DIY table runner adds rainbow color to the top of the table. You can make your own in under 30 minutes with these rainbow craft sticks and this simple tutorial!
These unicorn centerpieces are a simple table decoration. I just added two to the middle of the table by taping them to the runner with a loop of duct tape so they wouldn't blow away in the wind!
Place Settings
The unicorn tabletop supplies were the star of the party table. I layered a unicorn dinner plate on top of a red placemat and a premium white plastic plate for a fancier look. My daughter wrote each of her friend's names on a piece of paper and taped it to a twisty lollipop to make a simple and sweet place card!
Rainbow Sunglasses
We also had these fun rainbow cups with straws filled with pink lemonade and a pair of DIY rainbow sunglasses awaiting each guest when they arrived!
Rainbow Snack Mix
A snack mix that you can eat with your hands is the perfect poolside treat. It tastes even better when the snack mix is rainbow colored! Before the party Hazel and I threw Fruit Loops, rainbow marshmallows, mini pretzels and Sixlets® Rainbow Mix into a gallon storage bag and shook it up. At the party I just poured the mix into unicorn popcorn boxes and topped with two rainbow gummy candies. The snack mix was a huge hit with the hungry swimmers!
Pool Fun
If you ask the kids what the best part of the party was, they would say the pool floats, hands down! Having a mix of large floats like the giant rainbow and unicorn float, along with a few rainbow pool noodles made the swimming extra fun.
Party Favors
At the end of the party, Hazel handed each of her guests a favor box filled with unicorn and rainbow goodies including unicorn sticker sheets, notepads, slap bracelets, necklaces and rainbow holding fans.
It was a successful birthday party with lots of fun in the sun with friends!
