Preparing a Space Themed Classroom

Preparing a Space Themed Classroom

It is that time of the year again; time to gear up for Back-to-School. After teaching my first year in Pre-K, I now know how my room needs to be set up and what works best for my kids. When taking on a big project like completely changing the theme of your room, it’s best to do some pre-planning to make sure all of your bases are covered. In this post you’ll find out what you need to know about creating a classroom theme; specifically an outer space themed room.

During the year I changed my room multiple times. Currently my room is a MESS. This is what I was looking at yesterday. All my stuff was shoved into one corner of the room, all traces from last year gone. Last year, I did my classroom in a circus theme. You can go look at my set up here. My students loved it, my parents loved it, and my principal enjoyed the fun theme as well!   This year I am doing a Space-Themed Classroom. Although my room will have touches of space, I am really focusing on making my room a calming place. The color palette I'm using is made up of purples, greens and aquas. I put together a bulletin board as a jumping off point. I love how the purple makes the lime and aqua just pop! I was able to create a ring around one planet by cutting out the middle of an 18" paper lantern. Simply trace a 12" lantern and cut just inside the line. It is helpful to use wire cutters to cut through the lantern rims. After that I just assembled the 12" paper lantern and inserted the lantern into the hole of the 18" unassembled lantern. My reading nook is all ready to go with a new Space Alphabet Classroom Rug and a Space Shuttle Inflatable for Children. I am also gearing up for another Back to School Picture Display to document how much my kiddos grow over the year. Last year's display was a directional sign, and this year I am putting a Rocket Stand-Up outside the door. I'll have Themed Photo Props so the kids can take fun pictures! You can see what I did last year HERE. I am getting so excited to finish my classroom, and can't wait to share the final look!
