Portable Word Wall

Portable Word Wall

One thing that I dislike about the word walls I have had in the past, is that the kids never utilized them. The words are on a big wall, on the other side of the room. When they were writing, they couldn’t see the words, so they couldn’t check the wall while they are writing. I wanted a way to have the word wall be interactive.

For the last couple of years, I have used the same word wall. I took my big dry erase board (that is at the back of my room) and I marked off 30 boxes using electrical tape. Then I used my silhouette to create vinyl letters to go in the top corner.

Here is what my word wall USED to look like.

It was stuck in one place so if the students wanted to use it, they had to go to the opposite side of the room to look at it. (In this picture, I am using pictures for a beginning sound wall before we moved onto words.

Now when they need to use the word wall, they can go over to the word wall, grab the letter ring, with the Superhero Burst Bulletin Board Cutouts, off the Storage Hooks, and they can take the whole ring to their desk to work. When they are done with that ring, they can bring it right back to the word wall.

What I love most about this word wall, is that it fits PERFECTLY into a Superhero themed classroom! The Jumbo Super Hero Cutouts add just an extra bit of POP to the word wall! And the Super Hero Bulletin Board Cutouts add just a little accent to make the words stand out.

I hope this gives you some ideas on how to revamp your own classroom word wall!
