Police Appreciation Week kicks off May 15th (which also is the last week of school for us). We drop off different treats for the officers all week, and then on Friday, the whole class takes a field trip to the Police Station.
Monday: We make the cutest craft, then I deliver it to the police station. We make each officer a badge to hang on their locker. These are simple, and my favorite part, FREE. You can grab a copy HERE. Tuesday: On Tuesday, we take the guys some popcorn. This is one of my favorites because I absolutely LOVE popcorn! I use Mini Black Popcorn Boxes, add blue washi tape around the middle, and throw some popcorn in there. It is an instant hit! The guys can grab the popcorn boxes as they are walking out of the police station and have a snack for their shift. Wednesday: On Wednesday, I make little bags of candy for each officer. I take the Mini Black Gift Bags, use Glitter Glue Pens and put their call numbers on them. Then, I fill them up with some Wonka™ Laffy Taffy® Candy. Who doesn't love some candy while they are at work? Thursday: On Thursday, we make an ornament for each officer to put in their car or take home. I colored some DIY Wood Heart Ornaments, put blue washi tape around the middle, and let the kids used glitter glue to write "Thank You" on the ornament. Friday: Friday is the big day in Pre-K and the Police Department. I head to the police station Friday morning before school and set up a cute little table with snacks. I always take donuts as well as Hershey's® Kisses in Blue and Wonka™ Laffy Taffy® Candy. Then I head to school to get my students! Before we leave the school, we put on our Police Badge Name Stickers, Police Hats, Police Vests, and make sure to grab our Police Party Notebooks (in case we need to write down some important information while we are there!). I recommend this field trip to any classroom and any age group! My students LOVE seeing where Officer Hofficer works every day and the offers at the station always deserve a little kudos now and again!
