Pirate Ship Trunk or Treat Idea

Pirate Ship Trunk or Treat Idea

Yo-ho, yo-ho it's a Pirate Ship trunk or treat for me! This Halloween we are transforming our trunk into an interactive pirate ship complete with pirate skeletons, games, treasure and of course lots of candy!

Pirate Ship Trunk or Treat Ideas

I absolutely love Halloween and I especially love our Trunk or Treat tradition. I am passionate about creating a fun and interactive trunk or treat station and over the years I've created the Black Hat Bake Shoppe Trunk or Treat, a CarnEVIL Trunk or Treat and a Double, Double Toil and Trouble Trunk or Treat.

This year I knew I needed to top those ideas so I decided to go big and create an interactive Pirate Ship Trunk or Treat. I started by creating a pirate ship out of cardboard boxes and covering it in Weathered Wood Bulletin Board Paper. I used black spray paint to create small porthole windows on each side of the ship.

Every good pirate ship needs a strong mast, so I built one out of PVC pipe and a canvas drop cloth. I spray painted the mast with brown spray paint and then draped the torn up drop cloth over each section. I added a small pirate flag to the very top.

Inside the trunk of my car I created a scene with all of the pirate's loot, including a chest of treasure and candy for our little trick or treaters. I gathered up gold chargers, jewelry, gold coins and other "treasures" from around my house and put them in wooden boxes. My pirate Life-Size Skeletons kept their treasures safe with the DIY Dynamite Pirate Props I created.

Before our little trick or treaters can get their candy they will have to brave the wide open ocean waters, sneak past the mermaid skeleton and climb aboard the "Galloping Ghost" to retriever their treasure...or they can just yell "Trick or Treat."

In addition to this fun pirate themed scene we also had interactive games for the kids to play like our DIY Pirate Hook Ring Toss or they could step up and pose for a photo with our pirate skeletons.

If pirates treasure is what you crave, you'll have to walk the plank if you feel brave! We also had a plank near shark invested waters that the kids could play on, which was lots of fun. This would also make a fun game, if you made the plank a little bit longer and suspended it off the ground some like a balance beam.

One thing is certain, this Halloween everyone will be lining up eagerly waiting their turn to board the "Galloping Ghost" pirate ship and sailing into uncharted Halloween waters and steering with the Ship’s Wheel Cardboard Stand-Up!

With potential social distancing measures in place with your trunk or treat this year, there are lots of ways to make trunk or treat fun and safe for everyone! Build stanchions to keep distance between cars and encourage social distancing. To make your own stanchions, fill galvanized pails with gravel. Place a garden stake in each pail and then slide a black craft noodle over each one. Finish your stanchions by pushing a foam pumpkin over the top of each garden stake. You can now tie plastic streamers from one stanchion to another to create dividers to use between cars or to mark social distancing areas. In addition, volunteers who are handing out candy can use grabbers to avoid picking up the candy and also wear Halloween themed face masks to help keep everyone safe. Remember to have some hand sanitizer available so it's easy for everyone to keep their hands clean.
