While I was teaching, most of my bulletin boards were used to either display student work or to meet my curriculum standards. However, it wasn’t always easy to find space to create them and I never wanted to over-stimulate my sensory students. A great option became decorating my classroom door in a fun, welcoming theme.
As spring begins, it's the perfect time to brighten up the hallway with cheerful colors. The idea of a Paint Chip door sounded like a great way to bring about that fresh springtime feel. Sine my team created a lot of classroom décor inspired by the paint chip theme, my co-worker and designer friend, Dawn and I went to work.
We started with cloud gossamer (you can also use fadeless cloud paper). We added a white picket fence and grass, which was easy to create without spending a lot of time. Next, we had some young friends help us make butterflies and flowers. These kits are extremely simple to put together and can easily be done quickly. Next, we used baker's twine, clothespins and paint chip strips to complete the saying. The bulletin board border was a quick and easy way to trim the door!
After we had finished the door décor, we wanted to spice up the walls surrounding it. We used the longer paint chip strips and fans to create large DIY flowers.
We absolutely loved how it turned out and hope we inspired you to create paint chip door decorations for your classroom.
