My students and I are a huge fan of mini erasers! They are a wonderful learning tool and can be used in lot of different ways. One of the ways we like using them is for graphing activities in math. This ocean themed mini eraser graphing activity is a fun way for students to put their graphing skills to practice! This activity works well in centers or as a whole class. You can even have students work in partners. Be sure to download the Free Ocean Graphing printable here!
Before students begin this activity, you will need to blow up the Inflatable Sea Life Coasters and put some Ocean Mini Erasers into each sea creature. Aren't they so fun! I also used a piece of Turquoise Plastic Tablecloth to put under the Inflatable Sea Life creatures to make it look like the ocean.
You will need to print out enough Ocean Graphing printables for your class. Download the free printable here. Students will also need some crayons and a pencil to record their results. Adding thematic pencils, like these Under the Seas Pencils, adds some extra fun to the activity!
Students will pick an Inflatable Sea Life Creature (either a turtle, octopus, whale, or crab) and lay the Ocean Mini Erasers that were inside their sea creature onto their graph to see how many ocean animals they have. I like having students do this before coloring, because it allows them to touch and see the concrete numbers. This also helps them make sure that they are representing the number of each ocean animal correctly on the graph.
Students can then color in their graph and interpret their data by answering the questions at the bottom of which ocean animal they had the most and least.
This ocean themed math activity is such a fun way to practice graphing skills! To discover more ways on how to use mini erasers in your classroom, head on over to read my list of 10 Ways to use Mini Erasers in Your Classroom.
