Mother’s Day is coming up and I love incorporating a classroom project that my students can complete for their Mom, Aunt, Grandma, etc. What is even better is when I can tie it into some curriculum or subject, like writing! Be sure to download the Free Mother's Day Printable here!
One handmade gift idea for students is to paint their own flower pots. My students loved this more than I originally thought they would! They put so much detail and time into their flower pots. After they were finished no two pots looked the same, and you could tell it was a labor of love. I love this project because the acrylic paints and paint pens look great on the ceramic pots! They are also the perfect size for students to paint on.
This project was great, because it did not take long at all to complete. The pots dried very quickly!
Another idea for your students to work on in the classroom as a Mother's Day Gift is a hardbound book entitled "10 Things I Love About My Mom." This project is easy to explain and can be worked on during your classroom writing time. Oriental Trading carries Hardbound Story Writing Books which were absolutely perfect for this activity.
I explained this project to my students, and then had it be a part of one of their stations for 1-2 weeks. It was a great way to have them work on their writing skills while still making something special for their mothers.
I created this cover page for their books and easily taped it on the front with double-sided tape. Download the Free Mother's Day Printable here (Aunt, Grandma, and blank covers included also!)
I hope these ideas help your students create something truly memorable for their mothers and loved ones.
