Set the Scene
During the winter holiday season there is nothing I enjoy more than setting up the Christmas dinner table in front of the mantel. It's decorated, cozy and sets the scene for Christmas festivities.
I used Command Hooks to hang a natural birch wood over the mantel. I then hung geometric Christmas ornaments and a Gold Geometric Frame from the stick.
I added a large sprig of holly to soften the look and create a modern interpretation of a traditional wreath.
On each side I had a little fun with geometric shapes and color blocking to create Christmas vignettes. On the right I used geometric tree shapes and paired them with a taper candle holder sprayed gold and a vase set I sprayed pink.
I used a combination of blocks from the Melissa & Doug® 200 Piece Wood Building Blocks Set and 3D Geometric Shapes to create a geometric Christmas village.
On the left side I used the same tapers, vase and color blocked geometric blocks to create a Christmas village vignette. I also added a larger house, using the DIY House-Shaped Shadow Box. I painted it pink, red and gold and filled it with sparkling foam balls painted gold and more blocks.
The blocks are so versatile for creating mini Christmas village houses. I used hot glue to attach some of them and keep them secure.
Across the front of the mantel I strung a DIY Geometric Holiday Garland, find out how to make your own garland here. You'll also find my technique for color blocking the shaped in the DIY post.
Decorating around the Mantel
Inside the fireplace I laid birch wood logs. To brighten these up and compliment the color palette of this Geometric Christmas soiree, I painted the ends of each log in the colors of the party - gold, red, green and pink. I got very glam by putting out my geometric Santa, a gift from sweet friends last year, with blocks and glitter balls at his feet.
Don't forget Dessert!
On the other side of the mantel I set up my dessert station. This really gets me into the holiday spirit...it's mmmmm donuts all around!
I used the fab acrylic Donut Serving Stands to display them and used XL Glue Dots® to attach mini block stacks on the top of each stand. They easily pop on and off to get to the good stuff.
In front of the donuts, I decorated with a Gold Geometric Terrarium Candle Holder filled to the brim with painted blocks and glitter balls. I sat this on a gold painted giant block, these foam blocks are so versatile for decorating with geometric shapes.
I then added Black Geometric Beverage Paper Napkins for wiping away chocolate smudges! Another stack of painted blocks hold these in place.
Coordinating your Gift Wrap
We always do a gift exchange with our guests and of course I like to coordinate with my decor! There are lots of fun ways, like hand stamping, to incorporate geometric design into your gift wrapping. Get all my DIY Geometric Gift Wrapping tips and ideashere.
The shapes themselves make great gift toppers!
Setting the Table
When you have finished setting the scene it's time to set the table. I had a lot of fun decorating this table.
I used foam sheets as a template to do some hand stamping, creating a Christmas tree at each end of the table. Find out how to make your own super simple DIY Geometric Holiday Table Runner here.
As a centerpiece I filled a Gold Trim Open Top Terrarium with blocks and glitter balls. It's fresh, fun and I love the way it sparkles under the light. I used some of my own Christmas tree ornaments as accents to the centerpiece. Check out the festive range of ornaments available here.
The Place Setting
I kept the place setting simple. Bringing in each part of the color palette and using subtle geometric accents. I started with a Red Square Dinner Plate, then a Black Geometric Dinner Plate and a Green Paper Dessert Plate on top of this.
On top of the plates I wrapped the Premium Metallic Gold Cutlery with a Light Pink Luncheon Napkin and created a simple geometric napkin ring using craft wire and a Green Bead Assortment.
Not to forget the Christmas toasts! I used a Premium Clear Crystal Plastic Wine Glass and Clear Patterned Champagne Flutes at each setting. Then I created a drink stirrer using a Gold Foil Striped Paper Straw, a dab of hot glue and a green bead.
Time to toast to a very Merry Christmas!
