Math Disk Drop Game

Math Disk Drop Game

I am always looking for a way to make math hands-on and engaging for my students, especially since we cover the subject in the afternoon and their minds are tired. Today, I want to share a great way to use Inflatable Dice and the Disk Drop Game to add a little addition and subtraction fun into your day.

To make the Math Disk Drop Game, I added blue sticker labels above the numbers on the board. The labels work great with dry erase markers and can easily be changed to add subtraction and addition symbols or different numbers. I also added blue sticker labels to the disks for future use. To start off the whole group lesson, I had three students roll inflatable dice. My students were beyond excited to test out the new math manipulatives! math-disk-drop-game-addition-subtractionAnother student then put a disk onto the game which determined if students needed to add or subtract the three numbers rolled on the inflatable dice. My focus for this lesson was to see if students were using strategies I had previously taught. Students wrote the addition or subtraction sentence on their dry erase paddle and solved.math-disk-drop-game-addition-subtractionOnce I saw how engaged my students were in our whole group lesson, I quickly erased the addition and subtraction symbols to change the board for a center. For this center, students dropped the disks to determine the numbers to create an addition sentence. This center was easily differentiated by asking advanced learners to add four numbers. math-disk-drop-addition-subtraction-gameThe Math Disk Drop game is very easy to implement into your daily math lessons, the possibilities are endless!  Students will be eager to practice their math facts using this hands-on learning game.
