One of cinemas most beloved characters of all time, Mary Poppins, is returning to the big screen and we absolutely could not wait to revisit our favorite childhood film by celebrating with this adorable baby shower that is "practically perfect in every way!" This sweet ode to everyone's favorite nanny is the perfect way to celebrate the arrival of your own little bundle and it is so easy to create at home yourself!
The Table:
We layered our dining table in a crisp white linen. A vintage style white lace table cloth was layered over top to mimic one of Mary's famous dresses.
We used a color palette of various blues, reds and white to make this party setting really pop.
The Place Settings:
Each place setting consisted of a scalloped charger plate layered with a red paper dinner plate topped with a swatch of red and white striped ribbon.
Resting upon the dinner plate was a light blue paper dessert plate.
We added a kite silhouette to each dessert plate to honor one of our favorite songs from the original film, "Let's Go Fly a Kite".
Resting beside the place setting sat light blue napkins topped with silver cutlery.
Each guest sipped on a tasty cocktail in a glass milk jar which was adorned with a kite silhouette and a paper straw decorated with a darling red ribbon detail.
Lastly, to the left of each place setting sat a simple favor box full of sweets and treats for our guests to take home.
The Centerpiece:
The main focal point of our centerpiece was Mary's famous and character-defining hat. We recreated this iconic hat full of satin ribbon, bright daisies, charming berry colored beads and a measuring tape.
The hat rested upon a candle stick re-purposed to be a hat rack.
We created adorable alphabet wood blocks spelling out "Mary Poppins", which looked perfect in front of the hat decor.
These adorable alphabet style blocks mixed with Mary's iconic hat made for the perfect shower centerpiece! You can create this darling look at home by following our simple DIY tutorial.
The Backdrop:
We wanted to create a unique backdrop that really played off of the "Let's Go Fly a Kite" aspect.
We dressed our wall in cloud paper to set the scene. In the center of our backdrop sat a frame surrounding the phrase "Practically Perfect in Every Way".
Flanking the frame sat DIY kites with colorful tails.
The Dessert Buffet:
Resting beneath our backdrop was a simple dessert buffet.
A simple white cake was decorated with flying kite silhouettes adhered to paper straws.
The Snacks:
Everyone knows Mary Poppins is famous for her spoons full of sugar, so we wanted to play off the iconic song and create a delicious recipe idea!
Petite appetizer spoons were dipped in vanilla-enhanced white-chocolate. We added adorable details to each spoon to really make them stand out on the buffet. The petite spoons were inserted in bakery cupcakes to create a unique snack option.
We decorated red and white striped popcorn boxes which were then filled with blue sixlet candies and were topped with the newly decorated cupcakes! You can get our craft and recipes ideas for this yummy project here!
