Mad Scientist Teen Halloween Party

Mad Scientist Teen Halloween Party

Do you have a teen at home that loves Science and Halloween? Think about planning a Mad Scientist Halloween Party for him (or her) and their friends! It's no secret that Halloween is a big deal in our house. I have always planned themed Halloween parties for my boys, especially since my two oldest sons have birthdays in October. Through the years, our Halloween parties have evolved and now that they are teens, cutesy parties just won't do. So, when my son suggested a Mad Scientist themed party this year, I knew we'd be able to create something edgy for him and his friends to enjoy. I'm excited to share how with a little bit of imagination and some fun DIY projects, you can create a Mad Scientist Halloween Party for your teen too!

The Dessert and Snack Table

I knew my son wanted a cool laboratory to set the stage for the party, so we started with the backdrop. We hung up the Design-A-Room Mad Scientist Wall Backdrop and covered the walls with Fadeless Art Black Paper. We set up a large table and my husband constructed a pipe backdrop. We set up black lights to create the perfect creepy laboratory ambiance along with Green LED Lights among the props.

Every mad scientist needs some cool props in their lab. So, I altered a cardboard box with paint and mod podge and created a prop for our "lab". I added lights, knobs, gauges and other items I found in our garage to give it detail and dimension. I also painted a Black Cauldron and added foam ooze and a lit skull. I added glass domes from two Terrariums and placed them on top of candle holders with LED String Lights. To increase the creepy factor, I placed the skull from the Bag of Bones in a cloche and added a Green LED Light. I filled plastic beakers with popcorn and set out green and black candy apples along with a plasma light my son had in his room.

I whipped up a batch of vanilla cupcakes and transformed them into brain and toxic waste cupcakes. I also made a big batch of Toxic Punch for the kids to enjoy.

Mad Scientist Costume and Props

My son has always loved to dress up, in fact all three of my sons love dressing up for Halloween. To get the perfect mad scientist look, we dyed my son's hair silver, added a pair of chemical gloves and a rubber apron to a Mad Scientist costume we had from past parties. Soon he was all set!

We set up another table for all of the science experiments. I made DIY Glowing Laboratory Specimens and DIY Glowing Lab Rat Jars to make the lab feel authentic. We also added some dry ice to our props to create spooky bubbling experiments.

mad-scientist-halloween-party-11.jpg I set up a Posable Skeleton along with petri dishes filled with Glow-in-the-Dark Slime and other science beakers from my party stash.

mad-scientist-halloween-party-5.jpgI filled Science Party Cups with White Jelly Beans and used the Bag of Bones to fill a plastic cylinder.

mad-scientist-halloween-party-4.jpgAs you can see, my son really got into character as the mad scientist. I hope you are inspired to create your own Mad Scientist Halloween Party for your teen this year!
