The Lord of the Rings books and movies have been family favorites since my firstborn was a little boy. He literally grew up reading the epic books and watching the larger than life movies on the big screen. So when it came time for my son to pick a theme for his graduation celebration, it was no surprise when he picked one of his favorite quotes from the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien as the inspiration.
“I think I’m quite ready for another adventure”. No truer words have ever been spoken in the case of my son getting ready to embark on his next journey after High School. This party was such a joy to create for my son. Above all, he loved and appreciated every detail. I’m so excited to share with you all of the details from his Lord of the Rings Inspired Dinner Party!
The Dessert Table
Lord of the Rings party decor is hard to come by, so I knew I’d rely heavily on desserts for the theme. For the dessert table, I added a grass table runner with wood and black cake stand for the desserts.
I dressed up a plain two tiered cake with a silhouette of the fellowship making their trek and topped it with Barad-dûr, the “Dark Tower”.
My dear friend Katherine from Creating Awesomnessity made these amazing cookies. We were all in awe over the details!
My son doesn’t eat a lot of sweets but he can never resist cereal treats! Angelica from Red Flour Creationscreated the most amazing “Tree of Gondor” treats for us to enjoy.
Angelica also made these delicious “Eye of Sauron” cake pops in my son’s favorite cake flavor, lemon. Pictures do not do these awesome cake pops justice!
My friend Wynter of Sweets from Heaven, Outlets of Orange hand painted these fantastic “Eye of Sauron” Candy Bobs. These were such a huge hit at the party, they were the first dessert to go!
I served my son’s favorite Iced Spiced Chai Tea in the Aged Barrel Drink Dispenser. You can see my recipe HERE and my DIY tutorial HERE.

The Shire Tablescape
One of my son’s favorite scenes from the Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring is Bilbo’s birthday bash. So we wanted to create a tablescape that would morph The Shire with the Elven forests. I’m sharing how HERE.

One of our favorite details were the delicious and amazing Hobbit House Candy Apples from Red Flour Creations. These were so delicious and the details were jaw dropping!
Themed Party Decor
As I mentioned, Lord of the Rings decor is hard to come by, which isn’t a problem when you love to craft like I do! I set out a sign at our door that I made with the DIY Slat Sign. You can see my tutorial for Bilbo’s famous party sign HERE.
I decorated our mantel with iconic items from the movies including the White Tree of Gondor, Bilbo’s Contract, The Lord of the Rings™ Aragorn Sword and movie memorabilia my son has collected through the years.
To mimic the decor at Bilbo’s celebration, I hand cut felt bunting and hung it on Jute Cording with Ivory Paper Lanterns. I filled the lanterns with LED String Lights which added ambiance once the sun went down.
It was a dinner to remember, filled with laughter, love and memories my son will cherish for all of his days!
