Learning About Seasonal Changes

Learning About Seasonal Changes

My students are fascinated with changes in the weather and the changes that happen each season. We recently had some fun in the classroom exploring these changes using some engaging learning tools including an earth science game, sticker scenes about the seasons and readers about spring, summer, winter and fall.

Day and Night Earth Science Folder Games

We started our study of the seasons in the fall. It is easy for young children to see the changes that happen in fall; those during the day and those at night. The Earth Science File Folder Game "Day and Night" helped us to sort out the differences we see in the day and at night. We first sorted the picture cards in a pocket chart together and then moved the file folder to our science area where the children could explore it further on their own.

Next, we moved on to learning about seasons. We read the Season Readers to help us learn some key vocabulary words that we used as we decorated the Four Seasons Sticker Scenes. My students enjoyed building their own seasonal scene and were eager to show what they learned and use their new "seasonal" vocabulary.

Earth Science File Folder Games Seasons

After learning more about the seasons, we put our learning to the test by sorting seasonal pictures from the Earth Science File Folder Games. We used an additional game from the same set to help us learn how to dress in different kinds of weather. Both of these file folders have been a hit in our science area!
