I’m sure you’ve heard of the wildly popular annual music and arts festival that is Coachella, well this party is full of boho chic vibes that will help you plan a backyard Kidchella version for the younger crowd! From the giant dream catchers with DIY painted feathers, to the yarn wrapped terrariums and stemware, every detail of this party is sure to earn make you “Mom of the Year.”
The Backdrop I always start with the backdrop when planning a party. I feel like that element alone sets the tone and mood of an event. It doesn’t necessarily need to be something large and elaborate that covers a full wall, but just that one item, which drives the color palette and overall feel so everyone attending easily sees your vision. Our Boho Chic Kidchella Party was definitely driven by the larger than life yarn wrapped hexagonal dream catchers!
They hung beautifully from the tree and were the inspiration for several DIY elements throughout the party. They were made from small pieces of wood cut on an angle and stapled together. We painted them in our theme’s colors, and then added the yarn and DIY Painted Feathers for an added bit of whimsy. Also hanging from the tree was a gauzy tent, which provided a dreamy little spot to steal away and share a few secrets amongst friends.
The Table
Our hexagonal table was cut from a large piece of plywood, and given a simple light gray stain. From there we layered on the Crocheted Table Runner and anchored the center of the table with a DIY Color Blocked Yarn Terrarium. The Terrarium not only packed a big punch, but was super simple to create!
We chose pastel colors in shades of light pink, pale blue, lavender and green for the Boho Chic Kidchella Party, and they popped beautifully in the outdoor setting. Filling small blue mercury glass votive cups with white rocks, air plants and DIY Painted Feathers was a simple way to mix in our theme’s colors, while also carrying over the feathers from the backdrop. I always like to repeat an element at least three times throughout a party to help tie everything together. White candles in purple candlesticks, and succulents set inside pale pink candleholders furthered the boho chic feel.
The Place Settings
I fell in love with the Garden Party Paper Dinner Plates, and they were the jumping off point for the overall color palette of the whole party. Their colors and watercolor flowers just scream boho chic don’t you think? Using place cards at your table setting helps your guests mingle and chat with each other better than everyone sitting next to the same person they always do. Not to mention, they serve as yet another way to add to your décor.
Wrapping the Gold Rimmed Plastic Wine Glasses with color-coordinated yarn not only dressed them up a bit, but also mimicked the feel of the dream catchers.
The plates were layered on top of tea towels, which were painted in a triangle pattern using our party’s colors. The yarn tassels were simply glued onto the bottom, and tied in perfectly with the tassels on the backdrop.
The Dessert Table
The desserts were kept fairly simple. Popcorn, which was coated in melted chocolate, then tossed with plenty of sprinkles, was served in another DIY Color Blocked Yarn Terrarium. I love finding unexpected, pretty and functional ways to use otherwise purely decorative items!
The cutest strawberry cookies were decorated to perfectly match the theme.
Cupcakes are always a hit at parties; they’re easy to serve and you can have multiple flavors to please your crowd. We topped ours with DIY Painted Feathers, which further tied in the boho chic feel.
These Garden Party Beverage Napkins were both pretty and practical. And I just couldn’t resist painting the deer horns. If they don’t scream boho chic, I don’t know what does!
Party Favors Your guests will definitely make the best-accessorized list with these adorable DIY Boho Chic Purses! You could certainly make these purses prior to the party for your younger guests following the steps here, but they would make an ideal craft station for the older crowd. Setting up the paints and yarn at a separate table would definitely provide the perfect opportunity for guests to channel their inner artists.
