Want to create a special Christmas tree that kids will go nuts for? This candy themed Christmas tree will do the trick! This small tree is decorated with gingerbread men, candy canes and lots of other sweet treats, many of which are simple craft projects that kids can do on their own. They can also string pom-poms and striped paper straws to create a colorful Candy-Land inspired garland for the tree. If you've ever wanted to do a themed tree, this sweet-filled one is such a fun one to try!
What kid (or adult for that matter!) wouldn't go crazy for this candy themed tree? It is filled with simple ornaments you can make yourself or craft along with your kids, such as these easy foam gingerbread ornaments which are perfect for young children to make, and turn out so cute!
I spent a weekend afternoon crafting up the ornaments for the candy tree with my two daughters, ages 7 and 9. We had such a fun time, and the girls loved seeing the tree come together with all their creations!
Sweet Treat Squishie Ornaments
Anything squishie is incredibly popular with kids right now, and my daughters went nuts for these sweet treat squishies.
The girls especially loved jazzing them up with glittery paint and sprinkles to make ornaments for their tree.
They turned out so realistic with their extra embellishments (and remained squishy too!).
Wood Candy Cane Ornaments
We also decorated a set of DIY wood candy canes with glitter glue pens to make sparkly stripes. To turn them into ornaments, I simply added a loop of baker's twine with hot glue on the back.
Foam Gingerbread Ornaments
This foam gingerbread craft kit makes 48, so you'll have plenty of gingerbread boys and girls to decorate your tree!
Mini Holiday Character Ornaments
My daughters are big fans of any little collectible surprise toy, so they really loved these mini Christmas scenes I made using clear disc ornaments! I filled mine with frosted sisal trees, tiny pom-poms and these mini holiday characters, but you could create these ornaments with any of your child's favorite small trinket toys!
Striped Straw and Pom-Pom Garland
To finish off our tree, I created a colorful Candy Land inspired garland made from striped paper straws and large pom-poms strung onto baker's twine. You can find the step-by-step tutorial here!
Finally, to top off the tree, I created a simple star by gluing five of the striped straws together.
I love creating a special tree for my daughters in addition to our main family Christmas tree. This one is small enough to place on a table, but you could always create a full-size candy filled tree too!
To continue the candy theme beyond the tree you can layer in some of these fleece candy tied pillows and sweet treat bags along with other presents around the base of the tree!
There is nothing like watching your kids' eyes grow big when they first see the tree lit up at night!
