The four chapters in the book of Jonah hold a wonderful story about how God is a patient God who never stops loving us! He not only gives the people of Nineveh a second chance to repent, but also gives Jonah a second chance when Jonah chooses to disobey God. As you are teaching children about the story of Jonah and God's heart for redemption, these Jonah and the Whale activities will help your Sunday School lesson come to life! Students will enjoy getting to color their own Jonah and the Whale Pop Up Puppet. I found that markers work best to color in Jonah and the Whale. After students finish coloring they just take off the sticker backing from Jonah, attach him to the stick included in the kit, and put Jonah into the belly of the whale. As you're telling the Bible story you can have the students use their Jonah puppet to act out the story of Jonah—running away from Nineveh, being thrown off the ship and getting swallowed by the whale, being spit out after 3 days, and then telling the people of Ninevah God's message of love and repentance from their sins. This puppet craft is so much fun!

Jonah had plenty of time to think while in the belly of the whale, and after 3 days he prayed and asked God for forgiveness for disobeying Him. The Jonah and the Whale Tissue Paper Craft depicts this important scene in the book of Jonah. As you're making the craft and sharing the story be sure to teach the kids that God offers forgiveness to all of us—just like He did to Jonah and the people of Nineveh. In addition to the craft kit you will also need glue sticks (the craft calls for regular glue, but I found glue sticks to work and be less messy), scissors to trim the tissue paper, and tape to attach the string to make the craft hang.

When we think of Jonah we usually automatically think of a whale. It's hard for the big fish to not steal the thunder of the story! It is pretty amazing how God protected Jonah after he was thrown into the sea by having the whale swallow him and then spit him out 3 days later! This Flowerpot Whale Craft Kit is a fun craft for students to make while learning from the book of Jonah. In addition to the kit, students will also need glue to assemble the craft as well as some time for it to dry before they take it home.

This Jonah and the Whale Paper Plate Craft is another fun activity for students to make in Sunday School during your Jonah lesson! You could even attach a memory verse to the whale. To assemble the craft, you will want to use either foam glue or Clear Glue Dots® to attach the pieces to the paper plate. If you want to attach the string to the top of the whale, just use a piece of tape on the back of the whale to hold it in place.
