Va Va Voom – How to Plan a Honeymoon

Va Va Voom – How to Plan a Honeymoon

Imagine the moment when you and your husband have the chance to get away and relax after all these months of wedding planning. Soak that in for a minute – you and your husband! Doesn’t the thought of that give you butterflies?

While not all future husbands are all too jazzed about making wedding decisions, many become more interested when it comes to honeymoon planning. This makes it a special part of the wedding the two of you tackle together. Whether sunset walks on the beach or mountain top adventures are in your future, a honeymoon should be tailor made to suit the two of you. When you arrive, hang this Just Married Door Banner and sit back and enjoy each other! Don’t cave into the pressure of going on a trip that is too expensive or lavish if that doesn’t fall within your budget or lifestyle. Likewise, if you’ve been saving for your honeymoon, don’t be afraid to go all in! Do it before marriage changes your life in all the incredible ways that you can only begin to imagine it will. To organize your entire wedding budget, use this Free Wedding Budget Planning Worksheet.

Most importantly, honeymoon planning can be stressful because there are a lot of decisions to make. Be there for each other, stick to your original goal or budget and together, you will make it through.

Decisions, decisions...

Where to Go: Come up with a list of dream honeymoon destinations and ideas of what you'd like to do. Paris is romantic but not the only option. You can even jot down some ideas in a personal journal! The world is full of amazing travel destinations; choose the one right for you:

  • Sightseeing (US and international cities)
  • Outdoor adventures (hiking, camping, skiing, safari, surfing)
  • Relaxing (beach, tropical destination, winery, all-inclusive resort, cruise)

Wherever you go, sport these fun "Honeymooner" Sashes to celebrate and show off your new beginning together!

When to Go:

  • There is no hard and fast rule when you have to go on your honeymoon. Once upon a time it was tradition to leave on the night of the wedding but over the past several decades, that has changed. Nowadays, couples more often leave the morning after, the week after, or even the month after your wedding.
  • Price and work schedules often dictate when you can travel. It’s smart to schedule your honeymoon based on when you can get the best deal rather than based on your wedding date. Less romantic perhaps, but in the end, you can save big money by planning your honeymoon off-season or during shoulder seasons (tail-end or just beginning) of tourist season. Research and budget might trump the romantic notion of being whisked away on your wedding night but once you're on the honeymoon, the romance bounces right back. Be sure to check out these Honeymoon Travel Tips!
  • Check weather at your dream honeymoon destination. Certain locations are better visited during cooler months and vice versa. If you are having a summer wedding but love to snow ski, you’ll need to wait. It will be fine, we promise. If you choose to go somewhere warm, use these Mr. and Mrs. Can Coolers as a wedding favor then bring them with you while you relax poolside!

Where to Stay: So many options!

  • Hotels
  • All-inclusive resorts
  • Airbnb rental company
  • Tip - Use points to upgrade or splurge on room service or spa treatments when staying at name brand properties.

Six months to go – you’ve got this! Let’s keep the momentum going and discuss ordering invitations, planning your wedding day beauty routine and booking accommodations for your guests
