Get your spooky Halloween decorations out and set-up this Hocus Pocus Themed Trunk. This trunk or treat idea is full of old-world décor mixed with spooky décor including old books, skeletons, tombstones and creepy spider webs. Check out all of the details to set-up this spooky trunk or treat idea.
The set-up of this trunk is all about layering in the pieces. Begin by lining the inside of the trunk with the Cobblestone Tablecloth Roll. You can use packing tape or Gorilla® Tape to adhere the tablecloth to the car. Take the Haunted Forest Halloween Backdrop and use that to cover the inside of the car so you can’t see the seats. Next, you’ll want to layer in Creepy Cloth around the inside of the car, being sure to drape it from along the top and sides. We used both the Gray Creepy Cloth and Natural Creepy Cloth to add variety to the decorations.
Start stacking in all of the fun spooky accessories to the inside of the trunk. This is the fun part as you’ll create little vignettes on the inside and the outside of the trunk. Gather some old books and stack those. Old books are good to create height and place other decorative pieces on top including Gold Candle Holders with Battery Operated Candles, adding skulls and hands from the Bag of Bones, using small vases such as these Amber Glass Vases and Bud Vases. This Craft Bottle Assortment has lots of different sized bottles that are good to layer in different spots. You can also use the Books Tabletop Sign to take the place of real books. Once you have all of the décor set, you can layer in more Creepy Cloth and Stretchable Spider Webs on the top of the décor to enhance the spooky decorations.
Next you'll decorate the top of the trunk. Using the DIY Unfinished Wood Banner Squares, spell out the words I SMELL CHILDREN using the Chalkboard Bulletin Board Letters. Use Jute Cording to string the DIY Wood Banner together and hang from the trunk. Next, hang a White Bird Cage using jute cording to both sides of the trunk. Add a Feathered Black Crow to the inside of the cages.
The final step to the Hocus Pocus decorations is to set up the décor around the car. Take more of the Gray Creepy Cloth and spread across the ground in front of the trunk. Decorate a Chalkboard Easel using a Chalk Marker. We decorated with the words, Come Little Children, and added some fun spooky decorations using the chalk marker. Use the Tombstone Cardboard Stand-Ups and spread along the front and sides of the trunk. To add a little spook-factor use the Clawing Zombie next to one of the tombstones. Add more bones from the Bag of Bones and scatter those along the top of the creepy cloth.
Those who are handing out treats can dress-up in some fun Hocus Pocus Costumes. This Goofy Sisters Witch Costume is perfect and if there are more than one person handing out candy they can dress up as the Salem Sister Witch and Silly Sister Witch.
Hand out some spooky Halloween candy and toys in a black cauldron. Fill some Black Treat Bags with some fun candy hand-outs include Black Cat Lollipops, Witchy Warts Hard Candy and Orange Swirl Lollipops. Some fun spooky non-candy hand-outs include Black Cat Stickers, Witch Broom Pens, Witch Potion Slime, Book of Spells Notepads, Witch Finger Pens, Skeleton Bendables and Witch Potion Bubbles.
With potential social distancing measures in place with your trunk or treat this year, there are lots of ways to make trunk or treat still fun and safe for everyone! To keep separate from each of the cars, build stanchions to keep vehicles distanced from each other. Those who are handing out candy can use these grabbers to avoid picking up the candy and Halloween themed masks to keep everyone safe. Hand sanitizer can be available too so that everyone keeps their hands clean.
