Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I love how versatile this holiday can be, everything from spooky and creepy to whimsical and fun. I love decorating for Halloween and this is the only holiday that I go all out and decorate not only the inside of my home, but the outside too. This year we are celebrating in a big way with a spooky Halloween Haunted Mansion Front Porch makeover that will spook and delight friends, neighbors and trick-or-treaters.
I’ve always believed that your porch is your first chance to make an impression with visitors. It’s a glimpse of what they can expect when they visit your home. My porch is my happy place and normally, I want my porch to be welcoming and inviting. But, when it comes to Halloween I want visitors to know just how serious we take Halloween. I want guests coming for our annual Murder Mystery party to know they are in for a frightfully fun evening. I want trick-or-treaters to ooh and awe as they skip up the walk to retrieve their candy from our haunted house. Get the supplies to make this Halloween porch with the Haunted Mansion Front Porch Decorating Kit.
Over the years I've added to our Halloween collection to create the perfect haunted house. I started with a few skeletons and this year added Mr. and Mrs. Rot. I'm in love with this ghastly couple. They are so creepy with their glowing red eyes and tattered white clothes.
To create that old abandoned look of a haunted mansion I covered the chairs on my porch with leftover muslin fabric from my Fortune Teller Dinner Party. I posed one of the skeletons in the chair next to the side table filled with a few worn and creepy things. I also draped creepy cloth from the windows and columns on our porch. I love using these because it instantly transforms the space and unlike the stretchable spider webs they are much easier to clean up.
The other skeleton was posed next to the bar cart tending over its creepy pet crow. With eyes glowing bright red, this animated crow squawks and flaps its wings bringing your spooky scene to life. The crows aren't the only creatures that have inhabited our haunted mansion. Flying bats swoop down from the ceiling causing guest to shriek with frightened delight.
As trick-or-treaters approach our haunted house they will be greeted by a spooky display of black and white pumpkins, dead trees, tombstones and a shaking coffin. The shaking coffin is another addition to our Halloween decor this year and it is my absolute favorite. As guests approach and get near the coffin it will start to rattle and shake, causing a moment of fear and unease for those unsuspecting guests. I added skull heads to the white lanterns for a extra creepy look to our haunted mansion scene. We lined the sidewalk to the front door with the cemetery fencing and to really make things eerie we turned on a fog machine to give our haunted mansion and graveyard a ghostly look and feel.
All those brave souls who dare to visit our haunted lair are in for a real treat. We can't wait to spook and delight trick-or-treaters with this eerie and epic Halloween Haunted Mansion front porch makeover.
