Fall is one of the best seasons at our house. We live on a mountainside and the changing of the leaves is breathtaking. I wanted to plan a fun party for my 4-year-old and her friends to ring in the changing of the seasons, but with an educational twist; rather than focus on Halloween. Here’s a look at our Harvest Playdate.
Once we had looked all over the yard, we sat down and talked about what happens in fall and why. We pointed out fun things about fall-- hot chocolate, rain, pumpkins, all treats made with pumpkin, etc. Then we headed indoors for an afternoon full of activities. I think the key to a successful party or playdate for small children is to plan ahead and keep it moving. I like to put together several activities back to back, then give them some free time to play together at the end. Their attention spans are short and tend to be better at the start of the party.
Before the children arrived, I had all of the crafts sectioned out, decorated the space, and put their party favors together. I also made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins ahead of time. These sweet treats were a huge hit. For the party favors I went with a mix of fun fall candy using the Hershey's® All Time Greats Mix ..... and threw in an apple. I tied them up with rough twine and a little jingle bell. The kids loved them.
Our indoor activities started with Harvest Beaded Necklaces. This was such a fun craft that held their attention and gave them something fun to wear and take home. Next, we did a Happy Harvest Sticker Craft. After both crafts were done, we topped the party off with Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins, some cookies and apple juice.
This was such a fun, simple party and was the perfect way to celebrate our favorite season! Don't forget to check out my Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Mini Muffins, Happy Harvest Sticker Craft and DIY Harvest Beaded Necklaces as well.
