It's creepy, its crawly, it's a spider-filled Halloween mantel! If you love to decorate for Halloween but want an alternative from the traditional skeletons, ghosts and witches, this colorful mantel is for you! It may be teeming with 8-legged creatures, but they are more friendly than scary spiders. From the DIY EEK banner, to the BOO spider web sign, to the decorated spider pumpkins, the mantel is filled with ideas for incorporating spiders into your Halloween decor. The orange, purple and green color palette keeps it from being too spooky!
Giant Spider Web Backdrop
Want to make a big statement for Halloween? Start with a giant spider web! This large spider web decoration works perfectly over a mantel if you have tall ceilings. It would also make a great backdrop for a large blank wall. I decorated my web with a few sweet pom-pom spiders from this pom-pom spider craft kit. However, if you wanted to go scarier, you could add one of these giant spiders to the center of the web.
DIY Halloween Wood Signs
I decorated the top of the mantel with a variety of wood signs that I decorated myself! This BOO! DIY Halloween Sign is made from a DIY wood slat sign, spider web placemat, and BOO wood cutout. I propped the sign up on a wood crate to give it some height, and added a honeycomb spider to the front.
I painted another wood slat sign orange, glued on a spider web placemat and added a honeycomb spider for a simple piece of decor. Behind it, I layered a large chicken wire frame that I had painted green. I stretched a spider web across the frame and incorporated a few silly bendable spiders.
EEK Spider Banner
Across the front of the mantel, I hung a wood EEK! DIY Halloween Banner that I made myself. I added black letters and spiders to a DIY wood banner kit.
Spider Decorated Pumpkins
My creepy crawly mantel is full of creative ways to decorate pumpkins with spiders! From spider stickers, to spider tattoos, to baker's twine spider webs, there are so many fun options! I used a 9" craft pumpkin for each, but these ideas would work just as well on real pumpkins. Check out my 5 Ways to Decorate a Pumpkin with Spiders. To display the pumpkins on the mantel, I varied their height by placing some on top of urns, some on pedestals, and some directly on the mantel with a spider web placemat underneath.
Additional Spider Details
When it comes to this creepy crawly mantel, the more spiders the merrier. I ran a package of these honeycomb spider decorations up the side of the mantel, adhering them with a loop of masking tape on the back.
You can decorate the inside of your fireplace too! I added a few pom-pom spiders on top of our gas logs. Of course, remove the spiders before using the fireplace!
Expand beyond the mantel but adding a lifesized skeleton in a chair. I covered mine with bendable spiders and colorful plastic spiders, and placed an EEK! throw pillow in his lap. These black metal lanterns are a versatile accent to incorporate into the decor as well.
I accented the chair on the opposite side of the mantel with a BOO! pillow and a spider pillow to round up my creepy crawly mantel decor!
