5 Grandparents Day Gift Ideas

5 Grandparents Day Gift Ideas

National Grandparents Day is right around the corner…a day dedicated to celebrating the special people that love our kiddos insurmountably.  So what kinds of gifts could possibly measure up to all that they contribute to your family? The easy answer is: Anything heartfelt! As a new member of the grandparent club, I can officially testify that anything homemade with love will do the trick. So, if you’re in need of some inspiration, I’ve compiled five different Grandparents Day Gift Ideas that can easily be made at home by you and your kids that grandparents will treasure forever.

Crayon-Resist Watercolor Painting

This is a great project for the kids to help with! Use a paper trimmer to cut a piece of Pacon® Watercolor Paper down to the size you’d like to frame, then draw a design on the paper using a white crayon. You could use our sunshine drawing as inspiration, or come up with your own design. The possibilities are endless!  Paint the paper with Watercolor Paints and watch the design you drew with crayon magically appear under the paint colors.  It’s so fun to watch the art come to life (the kids love it)! Once the paint is completely dry, use a white paint pen to add text, if desired, then frame (The paint pen writing may need several coats). The result is a truly special gift!

This is such a pretty idea for Grandparents Day but would also be a great gift for Christmas or birthdays! To begin, line a Square Craft Basket with a tea towel, then arrange an assortment of White Ceramic Bottle Vases and White Ceramic Vases inside. Next, string Unfinished Wood Round Beads together with twine to drape around the neck of one of the vases, then finish it off with a twine tassel. Natural Cording secured around the neck of a second vase adds visual interest and gives the display a cohesive look. To create some color contrast, we stained DIY Unfinished Heart Wood Shapes a warm shade of brown before adding the grandkids’ names to the hearts. The names can be added with a white paint pen or with permanent vinyl cut on a cutting machine. To finish the arrangement, tuck greenery or florals inside the vases and place the personalized hearts around the base of the vases.

This fun concept takes stick figures from simple to stylish, creating the cutest gift! Simply sort through the buttons in the Wood Button Assortment to get the foundation for each of your people, then cut shapes from a Kraft Paper Roll to “dress” the family. Attach the buttons to an Art Canvas using GlueDots® Mini Adhesive Dots, then add the bodies using double-sided tape. Use a black permanent marker to draw the limbs. Personalize the art piece by adding Alphabet Bead names under each person using more mini adhesive dots. Make the gift even more unique by adding the grandparents’ names to this printable kraft paper banner, then printing it on kraft paper and adhering to the top of the canvas using double-sided tape. There are two printable banners included, one that says “We love our…” and one that says “I love my…,” suitable for any family style!

One of my go-to activities for kiddos to do when they’re at my house is play with washi tape. I just give them my big jar full of tapes, some paper and let them craft away! This Grandparents Day gift idea is based around that concept. Give the kids a piece of sturdy paper and some Gold Foil Print Washi Tape, then have them cover the paper with the tape. Use a cutting machine to cut a word out of the finished design, then adhere it to a photo mat or frame along with a favorite picture of the grandkids. If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can print the word on a piece of paper, cut it out, place it print-side-down on the back side of the washi tape-covered paper, trace it, then cut out the word using a craft knife.

This project is a great way to showcase a family with lots of grandchildren, and it’s super easy to make! Simply download the Dandelion Printable, type in the names of the grandparents to personalize the art, then print on Pacon® Watercolor Paper. Using Apple Barrel® Assorted Colors Acrylic Paint, the kids can then add their fingerprints on and around the dandelions. Draw “stems” on the loose dandelion petals and write each grandchild’s name along the stem. Allow to dry completely, then frame and gift!
