When Halloween comes around I love incorporating seasonal learning activities to keep my students engaged and excited about learning. I was inspired to use googly eyes to practice words with the “oo” vowel pattern. As a class, we made a chart listing words with the /oo/ sound. I titled the chart “Words That Say BOO” and used the enormous googly eyes in the word boo. The students go the biggest kick out of the huge googly eyes.
Once we had our list, I gave each student a foam ghost. I asked them to copy some words from our list. Instead of writing the "oo's" they got to use googly eyes! We used Sharpie markers to write on the foam, and the googly eyes are adhesive stickers, so we didn't need any glue.
The colorful, little ghosts are going to be a great addition to our Halloween décor AND the students had a blast learning about "words that say BOO!"
