The Banquet Hall
I set up our medieval style pre-show banquet in our dining room, close to the viewing room! I covered the chairs and benches with sheepskins and furs, after all winter is coming! A Pewter Metallic Polyester Tablecloth made a great table runner.
At each end of the table I used Polynesian Torches Party Lights sprayed silver to look like medieval torches. These are cut down to size and held up in Taper Candle Holders sprayed silver to match the torches. I added a carafe of wine and a warning from the 3-eyed crow in a gold frame next to one of the torches. Download the FREE printable HERE.
I then created some simple centerpieces to get everyone in the mood! I used Large Round Wood Slice Centerpieces to display each centerpiece. The first, straight from the dungeon, was a perfectly aged skull with a large Antler Tabletopper and Antler Table Tossers.
Next, I created elements reference House Targaryen. The second centerpiece had Khalessi's famous dragon eggs, a matching gold dragon and a dragon claw holding a bunch of grapes. My daughter loves dragons so I borrowed these from her, a loan that lasts for the final season only! Learn how to make these DIY Game of Thrones Dragon Eggs HERE.
I created a chandelier to hang over the table using a set of Black Raven Birdcage String Lights. To make your own, group the lights together with the wires and the battery pack meeting at the top then cover the wires and battery pack using black feathers from a pack of Jumbo Duck Quills.
Seating The Great Houses
Each place setting represents a great house of Westeros.
The table was set with medieval-style plates, drinking vessels and cutlery. I started with a Silver Charger then added a wooden dinner plate. I topped the place setting off with a Silver Foil Paper Dinner Plate. A Cork Coaster with a house crest was added to each plate as well as a black raven feather.
I used another coaster under a Molded Crown Plastic Goblet that I sprayed pewter to coordinate with the medieval setting. If you want to spray paint these cups just be careful not to spray the inside of the cup or the top rim of the glass. You could also use these Silver Plastic Wine Goblets instead. Download the house crest templates HERE. My favorite is the bear below, the sigil for House Mormont.
Each set of coasters has a different house crest.
The Premium Metallic Silver Cutlery is tied with Silver Double Faced Ribbon and "sealed" with a Gold Wax Thank You Sticker. I used modeling clay to cover the thank you message in the center of the seal. To get the "ye old world" vibe for the napkins I removed the string and used DIY Craft Canvas Banners as napkins.
Let The Feast Begin
Watch your back and don't invite the Freys! Remember those famous last words before the red wedding "My honored guests, be welcome within my walls and at my table. I extend to you my hospitality and protection in the light of the Seven."
Add real protection to the festivities. I hung a Royal Sword over the center of the table as well as a crusader and gladiator sword to each side. I had some fun with the "cheeseboard", serving it out of a Treasure Chest sitting on top of a Moss Table Runner; a fresh delivery from the village.
I scattered other offerings from the village around the table including Shiny Gold Coins and dragon eggs in Gold-Flecked Mercury Votive Holders.
The Crusader Shield makes great table decor. Download the FREE wolf head to apply to the front of the shield so House Stark can protect the feast.
There are so many food options that work with a medieval style feast. Keep it simple with The Hound's Chicken (rotisserie chicken) or serve one of our house favorites; pies. Ayra's rabbit pie, Baratheon's stag pie or Cersei's venison pie would make the perfect addition to a meal.
Light the table with more taper candles in a Silver Candelabra.
Is It Safe To Drink?
Unlike Joffery, you'll find it safe to drink at this bar. Set up a small bar near the table that can be rolled straight into the viewing room post-dinner.
I placed the Gladiator Shield on a frame stand as one of the main decorative items on the bar cart. The lion symbol perfectly represents House Lannister.
Above the bar, house sigil flags fly proud. Get all the details for these simple DIY Game of Thrones House Banners HERE.
I served a Milk of Poppy Cocktail that is not quite as lethal as the Game of Thrones elixir. This tasty cream-based cocktail is delicious! Get the recipe HERE then serve in goblets on a Gold Charger.
On the bottom of the bar cart place spare napkins and ale. I served ale in a Large Galvanized Pitcher with Moscow Mule Metal Cups.
