The sun is out and the flowers are blooming!! It's time to update those classroom bulletin boards, so dust off the stapler and get ready for some fraction fun! This colorful bulletin board is perfect for displaying student work. With just a few simple steps and a fun fraction classroom activity you will be all set to create your own fun with fractions display. Take a look at how you can use the kite tissue paper craft and fraction printable to create your own colorful display for your classroom walls.
To get started cover your favorite bulletin board with the fadeless cloud paper. I love choosing backgrounds that can transition for several boards, the cloud background is great for spring you can give it several different looks. I used three different patterns of border trim to give a layered look. The orange lotsa dots and white scalloped border were stapled together so they could easily be attached to the board. Once they were attached I used the Rustic triangle border trim on top. To hide where the borders meet I used yellow tissue fans and tissue paper suns to camouflage the corners.
While I added tissue fans and clouds to the top of my bulletin board my students worked on their fraction activity. The Fraction Fun Printable activity is an easy way to review fourths with your students. Students follow directions to label and color their kites using their fraction skills. The students can use their colored pencils to make their kites colorful. Download this free printable under the supply list on the right hand side of this page.
To display my student's work I used brightly colored construction paper. This helps it to stand out against the cloud background.
To decorate our bulletin board my students created this fun kite tissue paper craft. As a teacher I love these craft kits, everything is included that you need to create something fun and colorful. The best part is they also include extra pieces, which let's face it, as teachers we all have those students who need extra pieces because they ripped theirs or lost it etc.
We modified the directions a little and used glue sticks to attach our tissue paper squares. This was less messy and easier for my students to do independently at their desks.
Be sure to overlap the tissue and glue each piece down onto the acetate sheet. If you have any hang over the edge simply trim with your scissors when you are all finished.
As my students complete their kites I hand them on the board. I like to staple the top then push out the middle before stapling so it appears as if the kite is flying. I hung them from the board and a few from my ceiling to look as if they were flying.
While my students finish up I add a few fun letters to my board, and just like that we are all set for spring. A fun colorful bulletin board that showcases the skills being learned in our classroom. For my early finishers I had a few fraction games and resources available so they could explore and play with their classmates. A few of our classroom favorites are the fraction number lines, fraction matching puzzles and fraction bingo. I keep these resources in bins on my front table as students finish their work they can grab a partner and have a little fun with fractions.
