We love these simple classroom organization ideas that go perfectly with our fun food-themed classroom reveal!
This year my foodie teacher friend, Tiffany, asked me to help her decorate her classroom. When we started planning, we knew that a fun, food themed classroom was absolutely perfect for she and her students. One thing that was a must for Tiffany was to have cute yet functional organization. An easy way to organize a classroom is to split it into various areas based on your class's needs.
In Tiffany's classroom, we made different classroom stations throughout the classroom including a reading nook, small group area, art center and, our favorite: a rewards center.
In the rewards center, we used a combination of Tall Jars with Lids, Short Jars, and Large Storage Jars to hold different prizes. These jars are the perfect size to hold lots of little things. We labeled the rewards center jars with some fun prize level labels. You can down the free printable rewards center printable labels here.
For all of the books in Tiffany's reading nook, we used these fun, colorful Classroom Organizer Book Storage Bins and Neon Classroom Book Organizers. Tiffany decided that sorting her books in alphabetical title order was best for her students. We wrote the letters of the alphabet onto Funtastic Food Friends Classroom Name Tags and adhered them to the plastic book organizers. The next area of Tiffany's food themed classroom that was in dire need of some new organization ideas was her arts and crafts bookcase. This bookcase needed to hold all of the glue, markers, paintbrushes and music equipment for her entire classroom AND be fun! This was a tall order but I knew it was possible.
On the top shelf we placed the most used supplies, markers, paint brushes, paint palettes, and colored pencils. We organized the markers by color and placed them in Short Jars. To keep all of the markers together, we placed the short jars in Neon Tall Storage Baskets with Handles. We used the same organization technique for the colored pencils and paintbrushes as well.
The next shelf holds all of the classroom scissors, plastic trays and construction paper. The scissors are stored in a Compartment Classroom Storage Caddy. The plastic craft trays are a great way to keep the students' work tables organized while crafting. Simply gather enough supplies for each student and place them on one tray. Put the tray in the middle of the group desk so each student has easy access to the supplies. At the end of the activity students then place the supplies back onto the tray making clean up a breeze.
On the next shelf, bright colored Wire Mesh Storage Bins held bottles of paint and school glue which giae the otherwise plain bookshelf a nice pop of color and much needed organization. Bright Colorful Buckets held all of the classroom music instruments and a huge 1 lb bag of pom-poms on the bottom shelf.
The next area Tiffany and I tackled was her small group bookshelf. From manipulatives to games, this bookshelf held a TON of things and was probably Tiffany's most used area of her classroom. Fun counters including Growth Mindset Coins and Cupcake Counters were placed in large jars while stampers and plastic alphabet magnets are put into Tall Plastic Jars.
Black Stackable Bins were used to sort classroom paperwork and workbooks. These bins also stand as a homework turn in center and are a great way to wrangle random worksheets. Funtastic Food Friends Pocket Folders are used to gather the different paperwork for each of the small groups. The rest of the shelves were filled with tall plastic jars of manipulatives in mesh wire baskets, binders full of worksheets, and neon plastic bins filled with center books. All in all, these classroom storage ideas really made Tiffany's classroom a more organized and functional space.
