Flannel and Frost Christmas Decorating Ideas

Flannel and Frost Christmas Decorating Ideas

Bring a warm, cozy feeling to your home this winter with a gorgeous flannel & frost inspired Christmas tree. Combine cozy plaids, rustic touches, lush winter greenery, soft metallics and a bold pop of red to create a Christmas tree that makes a statement.

Deck the halls in classic plaid and bold pops of red to create a cozy holiday look. Decorating for the holidays is one of my favorite things, especially when it comes to decking out my mantel and tree!

Flannel and Frost Christmas DecorationsThis is one of my favorite spots in my house, especially during the holidays. I love sitting on the couch, curling up in a cozy blanket with a roaring fire, and watching the lights twinkle and glow on our Christmas tree.

Red Plaid Christmas TreeA few years ago I created a Modern Black and White Farmhouse Christmas Tree, but this year I wanted to go with something a bit more classic, while still incorporating one of the season's hottest trends.

Plaid Merry Christmas Christmas DecorationsWhen it comes to holiday decor, buffalo plaid is still a hot trend. Paired with classics like holiday greenery, poinsettias, and plaids, this tree reminds me of a frosty winter evening and cozy flannel blankets.

Classic Flannel and Frost Christmas TreeI started with this stunning Buffalo Plaid Merry Christmas Ribbon and wrapped it around the tree. This beautiful ribbon is a statement all on its own, but I like to incorporate lots of ribbon in my trees so I weaved in this gorgeous Red Velvet statement ribbon. The ribbon adds texture and a soft, elegant look and is always the first thing I start with.

Large Pinecone OrnamentNext, use mini Buffalo Plaid Favor Pails filled with snow and frosted pinecones and hang them from a few of the tree branches. This easy DIY ornament takes up a lot of space and adds big impact. The idea also fits perfectly with our cozy, plaid theme.

Plaid Buckets with Pinecone OrnamentI knew I wanted a bold pop on my tree (other than the ribbon), so I used the Poinsettia Garland to incorporate a touch of classic Christmas decor. I used wire cutters and snipped off the poinsettia flowers so I could tuck them into the tree.

Plaid and PoinsettiasIf you can't find the perfect ornament to fit with your theme, don't be afraid to make your own. I wanted to incorporate more plaid, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so I took apart the plaid pom-pom garland and created my own plaid ornaments. I hot glued a buffalo plaid bow to the top to finish it off and love how it turned out!

Plaid Flannel Ball OrnamentI layered the metallic North Star Ornaments on top of the Unfinished Wood Shiplap Circle Ornaments that I painted with a light coat of white paint. This layered look creates a bigger and bolder ornament that stands out and coordinates with the rustic shiplap on our mantel.

Metallic North Star OrnamentOne of my favorite ways to create ornaments for any theme is to use the DIY Clear Round Ornaments and fill them with glitter, fake snow, or greenery. These mini bottles filled with fake snow and fresh rosemary are a fun way to bring a natural element to your Christmas decor.

Mini Cork Bottle Christmas OrnamentPresents will look oh so stylish underneath the tree on this Black Plaid Christmas Tree Skirt.

Black Plaid Christmas Tree SkirtNow that the tree is all dressed up and ready to shine it's time to give your mantel a holiday makeover. Start by creating a focal point, in this case, I used a large DIY buffalo plaid painted sign to anchor everything together. I layered a simple small Black Spruce Wreath on top of the sign. Next, I placed a Christmas Garland along the mantel ledge. Make sure to give your garland a frosty touch by mixing in Snowy Evergreen Garland and poinsettias.

Buffalo Plaid SignAdd texture and layers to your display with DIY Mini Cork and Burlap Christmas Trees, Large Round Birch Pillars, and a Black Metal Lantern.
