Fall is here and what better way to welcome in the new season than by changing up your decor with a few cozy fall touches. I dressed up my dining room shelves for fall by incorporating some wood and moss pumpkins, fall farmhouse decor, and a "Hello Fall" Pom-Pom Pumpkin Sign that I made myself. To keep the vignette looking great through Thanksgiving, I swapped in a couple new accents. I added a DIY Pumpkin Turkey and this "Grateful, Thankful, Blessed" sign, both simple craft projects you can do yourself!
If you have a bookcase or set of shelves in your home, start with a foundation of items you already have on hand such as neutral serving platters, cake stands, dishes, vases, plants or books. Clear out a few spaces on the shelves to make way for some seasonal decor. Just a few pops of fall color and texture can completely transform your bookshelf for fall!
Farmhouse Fall Decorated Shelves
I updated the four shelves in my dining room to make it festive for fall! I kept the plants, platters, and stands I already had on display and incorporated fall accents such as these farmhouse fall blocks. I stacked them on a set of paper covered books to give them some more height. One of the tricks to creating an eye-pleasing shelf is to vary the height of the items displayed, and to overlap some of the items slightly. Adding a mini paper raffia pumpkin in front of the sign does the trick here.
I always like to incorporate something handmade into my vignettes as well. This "Hello Fall" DIY Pumpkin Sign was easy to make and uses one of my favorite craft supplies - pom-poms! The large size of the DIY wood pumpkin decoration makes it a great focal point for the fall display. You can get the list of supplies and step-by-step tutorial here.
I scattered a few small pumpkins on each shelf, varying the texture and color of the pumpkins such as these gold-dipped white pumpkins, fall burlap pumpkins, farmhouse fall pumpkins, and wood pumpkins. I prefer to use faux pumpkins, but you can incorporate real pumpkins and gourds into your display as well!
I decorated a tiered platter with mini white pumpkins, paper raffia pumpkins, fall corn craft embellishments, faux fall leaves and rose gold votives. A simple fall decoration idea that takes minutes to make!
On the bottom shelf I incorporated a moss pumpkin and a pretty ceramic white pumpkin along with the plates and platter I already had displayed.
Thanksgiving Decorated Shelves
You can keep this arrangement going through November with just a few simple accent swaps to transition your shelves for Thanksgiving! I kept the majority of the shelves the same but added a new DIY Grateful & Blessed Wood Sign and DIY Pumpkin Turkey.
In place of the Farmhouse Fall blocks, I added this DIY "Grateful, Thankful, Blessed" sign. It is easy to make and coordinates great with the other fall accents. You can find the tutorial here.
Of course, you need a turkey for your Thanksgiving display! This playful interpretation of a turkey starts with an orange craft pumpkin and uses large fall leaves for its feathers. You can find the simple tutorial on how to make the DIY Pumpkin Turkey. I displayed the turkey on a wood pattern cake stand to give it some height.
For the top shelf, I just made one simple addition. I added a "gather" metal sign that I painted orange to the front of the wood pumpkin.
Making a few simple changes to your everyday decor can give your space an entirely new feel, and is a special way to embrace each new season in your home!
