Time to put away the devices and have some old-fashioned dress-up fun with this fairy tale themed playdate! For a magical afternoon of crafting and pretend play, my daughters (ages 5 and 7) invited a few friends to come over wearing their favorite dress-up clothes. Once transformed into princesses, queens, dragons, and knights, the fairytale fun began! We set the scene for the playdate with a simple cardboard castle playhouse. Not only did the kids have fun playing in it, they got to help decorate it with crayons and markers too! To keep creative minds busy, we laid out simple crafts such as fairytale sticker scenes, foam tiaras to decorate with adhesive jewels, and make-your-own fairy tale books. No playdate is complete without snacks, and we served a special “magical potion” in plastic medieval goblets. To cap off the afternoon, the kids read a fairy tale together! Hosting your own fairy tale playdate can be easy! Start by rounding up your favorite dress-up clothes and ask guests to come wearing theirs. Next create a cozy reading nook with pillows and beanbags and check out some classic fairy tales from your local library. Kids love crafting, so provide a couple simple projects they can do on their own such as fairy tale sticker scenes or foam crowns decorated with adhesive jewels. Finally, serve up an extra special treat like these fairy tale floats, and your playdate is bound to be a hit!
See the Party
Who wouldn’t want their own personal castle? Especially one covered in pom-poms! To encourage pretend play, set up the cardboard castle before the playdate, and adorn with pom-poms and glittery flags if you like. Then provide play date guests with markers, stickers, and adhesive jewels to add their own fairytale flair. The castle will provide hours of fun long after the playdate is over.
Make the Project
For a fairy tale playdate, it is only fitting that kids have the chance to let their imaginations shine by dreaming up their own fairy tale. These sturdy hardbound story writing books with room for drawing and writing on each page are perfect for young authors to decorate and write out their stories. The kids were able to decorate their books with markers and fairytale stickers at the playdate and take them home to finish their stories!

This fun take on a classic ice cream float is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Rather than ice cream it uses rainbow sherbet, and for a surprise factor it has pop rocks candy sprinkled on top. Served in a fun jeweled goblet with pink striped straws, these bubbling and popping potions were just the thing you can imagine being brewed up in a fairy tale!

Peel-and-stick crafts are the best when it comes to playdates. No glue mess and minimal hands-on adult help required! Playdate guests can further accessorize their dress-up attire with their own DIY crowns. Just start with these foam tiaras (they come in a pack of 12 so there will be plenty for everyone!), and let kids decorate them with large adhesive jewels and fairy tale stickers.

Stickers are always a hit, and these fairy tale sticker scenes come with a jam-packed page of stickers and a background page to create your own fairy tale scene. This is a great project to have ready to go at the start of the playdate so kids can dive right in! In addition to the sticker scenes, we also had these darling carriage favor boxes filled with mini markers for each of the kids to use in their crafting.
