This year I'm putting away the spooky decor and opting for a transitional farmhouse mantel that can go from fall to Halloween in a cinch. This fall farmhouse mantel features a vintage vibe with soft and subtle colors, mixed with a pop of texture and color from handmade decor pieces.

I love decorating my house for the holidays and each season, especially my living room mantel. It's one of my favorite spots in our house and it's easy to switch out the decor each season. This year I'm putting away the spooky decor and opting for a more vintage vibe with a transitional mantel that will take me from fall to Halloween in a cinch.
Now that summer is officially over I couldn't wait to decorate for fall. I was inspired by the Fall Farmhouse Signs and their muted hues of green, orange, and grey. I started by layering the fall time sign with my vintage window we salvaged from my husband's grandparents farmhouse.
Next, I layered the smaller white window frame over the vintage window and then added the farmhouse fall shiplap pumpkin sign next to it. On the other side, I added the metal farmhouse fall windmill wall decor to balance it all out.
The key to creating a show-stopping mantel is to add lots of layers, texture, and color. Once you have the larger pieces in place it's time to add in the medium size pieces like the farmhouse fall tabletop blocks and fall farmhouse pumpkins.
One of the ways I plan to help this mantel easily transition from fall to Halloween is by using key pieces like the farmhouse fall jack-o-lantern. I fell in love with this little metal pumpkin, but I didn't want to have the jack-o-lantern face showing until it was time for Halloween, so instead I simply turned it around so that it doubled as a fun fall pumpkin that fits perfectly with this farmhouse decor.
One of my favorite parts about decorating for the holidays is being able to create and personalize the decor for my current mood and style. I don't always like to have the same decor year after year, but buying all new decor isn't always an option. Using pieces you already have and combining them with handmade trendy pieces helps keep my decor budget on track. Last year I made a wood bead garland for my Pumpkins and Pinecones Farmhouse Fall Mantel, but this year I wanted to incorporate the cute and colorful trend of pom poms.
I created new colorful wood bead and pom-pom garlands to add a pop of color and texture to the fall mantel. I am absolutely in love with how this DIY project turned out and have a feeling I will be making a few more of these in the near future!
This past spring I made a few floral DIY embroidery hoop wreaths and I loved how they added a whimsical touch to the vintage window on my mantel, so I decided to create a new version for fall. This fall pom-pom hoop wreath is easy to make, but will definitely make a statement on your mantel.
Create a little pumpkin patch on the fireplace hearth with a variety of faux pumpkins and the cute pumpkin patch sign.
Sit back, relax and enjoy your beautifully styled fall farmhouse mantel decor. When it comes time to transition to Halloween all you need to do is swap out some of the decorations, hang a creepy Halloween cloth in the background, and add a few spooky touches.
To create the Halloween mantel I simply removed the windmill and fall shiplap pumpkin. I added the farmhouse fall witch on a broom to the left side of the mantel and layered it with a large black frame that has the printable haunted farmhouse printable sign. I turned the jack-o-lantern pumpkin around to show that cute toothy grin and added the farmhouse fall witch hat Halloween decoration to one of the pumpkins.
Next, I added a bunch of black crows to the pumpkins and mantel decor to give it that spooky Halloween vibe. I also added a black spider to the pom-pom wreath. You could also hang felt bats or spiders from the wood bead pom-pom garland to give it an even spookier look.
