6 Easy Button Crafts for Kids

Buttons are a simple material with so many crafting possibilities for kids. Since they come in every color of the rainbow, there are endless ways you can use them to create fun crafts. These button crafts are easy to make and will keep kids busy and engaged any time of the year. Gather some self-adhesive buttons and a few other simple supplies like cardstock, foam sheets and craft sticks and get ready for an afternoon full of crafting fun.

You won't find a cuter craft than this adorable caterpillar sitting on a leaf. Start by cutting out a leaf shape from a green foam sheet. Use a green marker to draw lines on your leaf. Glue a 1-inch pom-pom on the front of your leaf with tacky glue. Place a line of buttons behind the pom to create your caterpillar body. Then place googly eyes on the front of your pom caterpillar face.

Kids are going to love making this happy paper plate snail craft! To start, decorate the bottom side of a white paper plate with self-adhesive buttons in a swirl pattern. Cut out a snail body from colored cardstock paper. Add a line of tacky glue along the bottom of the paper plate and glue it onto your snail body. Punch a hole in the top of the snail head with a hole punch. Cut off a section of chenille stem for antennae. Place it through the hole, bend it in half and twist it around itself to secure it closed. Place a googly eye at the front of your snail and then draw on a small smile with a black marker.

Use buttons as a fun way to create a colorful flower collage. Cut a sheet of light blue cardstock paper in half to make it 6-inches by 12-inches. Add a line of green buttons along the bottom of your cardstock to make grass. Create flowers by placing a yellow button in the center and six buttons surrounding it. Make several different flowers across the light blue cardstock. Finish your collage craft by adding a line of green buttons down from each flower to make stems.

This colorful tree craft is super easy for kids to create, and you can customize it with as many different colors as you choose. To make the craft, cut a tree trunk out of brown cardstock paper and glue it onto a light blue sheet of cardstock. Now attach buttons around your tree trunk to create a full tree top. Get creative with different colors to create a tree for each season, or make a unique rainbow colored tree.

Bring some sunshine indoors with this cute sun craft. Cut out two 5-inch circles from a bright yellow adhesive foam sheet. Peel the backing off one yellow circle and place eight yellow craft sticks around the inside perimeter on the sticky side of the yellow circle. Peel the backing off the second yellow circle and place it on top of the first yellow circle, over the craft sticks. Attach yellow buttons on each of the craft stick sun rays. Place googly eyes in the center of your sun and draw on a cute little smile with a black marker.

This colorful rainbow craft is a perfect way for toddlers and preschoolers to practice learning their colors. Remove the backing off the colored buttons and place them in rainbow color order in the shape of a rainbow on blue cardstock paper. Use scissors to cut the button rainbow out of your blue cardstock. Then cut out clouds from a white foam sheet and glue them at the ends of your rainbow.
