Dr. Seuss makes everything more fun – including trunk or treat! This Dr. Seuss trunk or treat idea is packed with color and fun, here and there and everywhere! Add this Cat in the Hat trunk or treat to your Halloween event, whether it's at church, school or in your community. Read on to learn how to set up your own Dr. Seuss trunk or treat – this Dr. Seuss Trunk or Treat Decorating Kit makes it even easier!
Begin by lining the inside of your trunk with a Cat in the Hat Backdrop Banner. If you'd like to create a shelf inside your trunk, use the backdrop banner to wrap an empty box turned upside down. (Note: We recommend using packing tape or Gorilla® tape to secure decorations to both the inside and outside of your vehicle.) Once the trunk is lined, cover the bumper and the top of the open trunk with red and white striped table skirts.
Now it's time to decorate the inside of the trunk. Using the Pin the Tie on the Cat game, secure the Cat in the Hat to the middle of the trunk liner and place the ties in front of it. Next, add Dr. Seuss Character Bulletin Board Cutouts to the liner – as many or as few as you'd like. Add more Dr. Seuss flair by propping some Cat in the Hat Jointed Cutouts around the inside of the trunk. Add some words of encouragement with a Dr. Suess Motivational Vertical Banner placed to one side of the trunk and a Read with the Cat banner on the other side. Finish the look by hanging colorful hot air balloon lanterns from the open trunk lid.
Ready to decorate the outside? Let's go! Place a Cat in the Hat Cardboard Stand-up in front of the trunk, all the way to one side so the trunk decorations are still visible. DIY Truffula Trees are the perfect decoration for the other side of the trunk. Make the Truffela Trees from garden stakes, plastic cups and tissue paper pom-poms.
Of course, a Dr. Seuss trunk or treat calls for some very Seussical handouts! Dr. Seuss themed fidget putty is a popular pick, as well as Horton Hears a Who Kindness Coins, Dr. Seuss bookmarks, pencils and bracelets. Dr. Seuss Hats are also a fun surprise for the kids! Add your goodies to a large galvanized pail so they're easy to grab. And remember – volunteers can get in on the fun by wearing a Dr. Seuss hat and Cat in the Hat gloves!
With potential social distancing measures in place with your trunk or treat this year, there are lots of ways to make trunk or treat fun and safe for everyone! Build stanchions to keep distance between cars and encourage social distancing. To make your own stanchions, fill galvanized pails with gravel. Place a garden stake in each pail and then slide a black craft noodle over each one. Finish your stanchions by pushing a foam pumpkin over the top of each garden stake. You can now tie plastic streamers from one stanchion to another to create dividers to use between cars or to mark social distancing areas. In addition, volunteers who are handing out candy can use grabbers to avoid picking up the candy and also wear Halloween themed face masks to help keep everyone safe. Remember to have some hand sanitizer available so it's easy for everyone to keep their hands clean.
