All across the country, schools are kicking off National Reading Month by decorating their doors with various themes from their favorite children's stories and authors. One of my favorite childhood authors is Dr. Seuss™, and one of my favorite books to read to my students is Oh, the Places You'll Go. This Dr. Seuss™ themed door decoration is a great way to showcase many classroom accomplishments throughout the month of March, or any time of year. Let's grab our supplies and get started!
I used this Eureka® Dr. Seuss Oh the Places You'll Go Vertical Banner as inspiration and the focal point for my Dr. Seuss themed door decoration. I started designing the door by adding Fadeless® Art Paper Roll in brite blue to the back of the classroom door.
After covering the door with paper, I bordered the door with Loop-de-Loop Bulletin Board Borders. This gave the door a whimsical feel and framed the door nicely. Let's start working on our DIY pom-pom garland for the top of our door!
This DIY pom-pom garland is fun, easy to make, and adds a touch of color and dimension to your Dr. Seuss themed door decoration. The only supplies you'll need to create this garland is: yarn, pom-pom makers, paper straws, fishing line (or some type of twine) and scissors. I used Neon Yarn and the Pom-Pom-Makers to create the pom-poms for the garland. You can find out how to make these pom-poms HERE. I also loved the colors on The Very Hungry Caterpillar Paper Straws. I thought these would add a nice touch to the garland and would help separate each pom-pom. String each pom-pom onto fishing line or other twine using a large needle. Adhere the garland to the door using hot glue or tape.
Tape the Eureka® Dr. Seuss Oh the Places You'll Go Vertical Banner onto the door using Mavalus® Tape. I placed the vertical banner in the middle of the door as the focal point when you enter the classroom.
I added some final touches to this fun and colorful display by including elements from the Dr. Seuss Oh the Places You'll Go Bulletin Board Set. The Dr. Seuss balloon and cloud cutouts help tie everything together on your classroom door. The cutouts are the perfect addition to fill any empty space that you may have and give your classroom door a pop of color.
Personalizing your door decoration is so easy with these Dr. Seuss Oh the Places You'll Go Cutouts. These cutouts were the perfect way to acknowledge students for their hard work as they accomplish their reading goals throughout the month of March.
These DIY pom-pom truffula trees are so fun and add dimension to your door decoration. The only supplies you'll need to create these truffula trees include: yarn, pom-pom makers, paper straws and scissors. I used Neon Yarn and the Pom-Pom-Makers to create the pom-poms for the truffula trees. You can find out how to make these pom-poms HERE. I also loved the bright colors on The Very Hungry Caterpillar Paper Straws. I used the straws as the base of each truffula tree. Cut each straw to the desired length prior to adhering them to your door decoration. Use a Surebonder® Cool Shot Glue Gun to adhere your paper straws and truffula tree to your door decoration.
