This donut shop dramatic play center is perfect for the Pre-K classroom. One thing that I love in my PreK classroom is building creative Dramatic Play centers. With donuts being so popular with the little ones, I thought a donut shop would be the perfect fit!
The first thing we had to do was create a donut stand. I used a Donut Party Treat Stand and a Melissa & Doug® Brew & Serve Coffee Set to create the shop. This is where the students will make and sell the donuts. To set the scene I used a Pacon® Fadeless® Teal Bulletin Board Paper Roll to create the background of donut shop. I then put up Lots of Dots Purple Bulletin Board Borders around the edge of the bulletin board and added fans to the corners with Donut Party Paper Dessert Plates.
Any self-respecting donut shop will sell various kinds of donuts in different flavors. My favorite donut is chocolate and my husband's is blueberry, so I knew my kids would like more than the mint, pink and purple donuts that come in the Donut Party Plush Donuts with Box. So, I grabbed Gigantic Fantastic Felt Sheets and scissors, and cut felt "frosting" to lay on the donuts. My students were then able to make any flavor of donut they wanted.
My kids loved working at the cash register and helping their friends purchase donuts. They would fill out the order form,and their friends, the donut shop workers, would fill their order.
The kids love sitting around the table, drinking their coffee or tea from the Melissa & Doug® Brew & Serve Coffee Set. It's so fun to watch them chat while they're waiting on more friends to show up!
Another main element in our dramatic play centers is playing dress up. I used Chef Hats, Kid's Chef Vest, and Donut Party Hats to help kids feel like they are real bakers. The kids can become the bakery cooks in the chef's hat and vest, or they can wear the Donut Party Hats and be bakery workers. We also might have had a fire fighter and police officer visit the donut shop a time or two!
