Have you heard of creating a makerspace for your classroom? A makerspace is a space where your students can come together to collaborate on different projects based on their interests while exchanging ideas, supplies and knowledge! If you are interested in applying this new collaborative way of learning into your classroom or school, this DIY Makerspace Cart is a great starting place for you! Whether your students are designing a scene for a fairy tale finger puppet show or creating a new toy for an invention project, this cart has all the essentials they'll need. Be sure to download the free supply labels here too!

To create your own makerspace cart, you will first need this durable and versatile American Crafts™ Burnt Ash Crafting Cart. With three spacious shelves and multidirectional wheels, this cart is perfect for storing supplies and can easily be shared among groups and classes. In addition, the shelves allow students to easily locate what they need. Clean up is also a breeze using FREE Supplies Labels. Download the free labels here! Read more on all the specific supplies in each shelf below!

The top shelf of this makerspace cart works great to hold all your designing supplies. To help my students easily find what they need, I used tall and clear DIY Paint Cans to store the 10-color Chenille Stem Classpack along with pencils that come in handy for sketching and designing. I used the shorter Paint Bucket Favor Containers to store supplies such as Beginners Scissors, Tiny Pom-Poms, 12-Color Bold Crayola® Cone Tip Washable Markers and 8-Color Crayola Classic Fine Tip Washable Markers. I also added some rolls of Colorful Masking Tape and this amazing Makerspace Book Set which includes Epic Cardboard Adventures, Recycled Science and Big Book of Building to help my students further explore new projects on their own!

The middle shelf of the makerspace cart is perfect for storing painting supplies! It is so spacious that it can easily hold all twelve 16-oz. Crayola Assorted Colors Washable Tempera Paint Bottles, a set of Rectangular Paint Palettes and 24 various brushes from the Easel Paint Brush Set. To make good use of all the materials on this cart, I also used the metal lids from the DIY Paint Cans and Paint Bucket Favor Containers as mixing palettes! These are conveniently stored behind the Rectangular Paint Palettes on the cart.

The bottom shelf is designated for construction paper supplies including 50 sheets of Pacon® Riverside® Green 9" x 12" Heavyweight Construction Paper, Pacon® Riverside® Orange 9" x 12" Heavyweight Construction Paper, Pacon® Riverside® Blue 9" x 12" Heavyweight Construction Paper and Pacon® Riverside® White 9" x 12" Heavyweight Construction Paper. Since the colors are separated by these Black Stackable Bins that easy fit on the shelf, my students can maximize their time designing, making and creating! To bring more attention and fun to our designated makerspace cart, I used 1/2" GlueDots® Clear Adhesive Dots and Chalkboard Bulletin Board Letters to adhere the words "Makers Gonna Make" to the front of the cart. Finally, I printed, cut, and taped the FREE supply labels onto the paint cans.
