Do you decorate your mantle for the holidays? I don’t normally decorate my mantle except for at Halloween and Christmas, but I am loving all of the red, white and blue decorations I’ve seen lately and was inspired to decorate a patriotic mantle for the 4th of July. With just a few simple supplies you can transform your mantle into a patriotic and festive display.
I started by creating a few banners for my patriotic mantle. I used the patriotic washi tape, red baker's twine and red and white striped ribbon to make a few different banners.
It's easy to make the patriotic washi tape banner and you only need 3 supplies, patriotic washi tape, and scissors.
Step 1: Cut a length of twine for your banner. Take a roll of washi tape and place it under the twine.
Step 2: Fold the washi tape over the twine and stick it together. Fill the length of your twine up with strips of washi tape.
Step 3: Take your scissors and cut a triangle in the bottom of each strip of washi tape.
Step 4: Hang your banners. I have a huge mantle with lots of space so I needed something big to make my patriotic decorations pop. I hung a big wooden pallet backdrop, that my husband made for a Peanut Butter and Jelly party, in the center of the mantle and then I hung the patriotic banners on the pallet.
Step 5: Now that you have a pretty and patriotic new DIY washi tape banner it's time to decorate the rest of the mantle. Group a collection of patriotic paper fans together for an instant pop of color.
Step 6: I am obsessed with creating chalkboard art and made a bunch of DIY patriotic chalkboards to display.
Step 7: I gathered up a few books, an old antique pitcher and small American flags to add to the decor. I love this free patriotic printable and printed it out and put it inside a red picture frame. I put red and white polka dot fabric in the other picture frame for another pop of patriotic color. Step 8: It was super simple and fun decorating my mantle for the 4th of July and I think this patriotic mantle display is a beautiful way celebrate our country.
