Are you thinking about decorations for your Dig themed VBS? Hey, so are we! From a check-in station and background to stations for crafts and snacks, you'll find all the inspiration and DIYs you'll need to create the best VBS decorations yet.
The Background
Creating outdoor elements for the great indoors is easier than you might think. Start with a backdrop, using rolls of White and Blue Gossamer taped to the wall. Make sure to overlap the different layers to create plenty of depth. Create clouds by gathering white gossamer and pinning the fabric into wispy cloud shapes. To create rolling sand dunes, cut ½" thick foam core into sand dune shapes and paint them with acrylic paint. Line the bottom of the dunes with crinkled kraft paper to create a desert look.
DIY Dig Site Feature
To make the dig site area, cover your space with a Dig VBS Table Roll cut into the shape of your choosing. Cover the edges of your dig site table roll cover with loose sand.
Fill Sand Buckets with loose sand. Write 'Dig Site' and a number onto DIY Small Canvas Flags. Place the flags into the buckets and place them throughout your dig site. You'll also want to include Stained Wood Centerpiece Boxes filled with sand and Wooden Cross Beads.
Don't forget to give the kids Dig VBS Plastic Shovels with Message and Sand Sieves to play with in the sand.
Finish off your dig site by propping it with Kraft Paper rocks, an Inflatable Pickaxe, and a Dig VBS Directional Sign. You can even add in all sorts of fun Dig Themed Stand-ups like this Pottery Table Stand-up.
Check-in Station
Call attention to your check-in station with an outdoor tent.
Label the tent by making a simple sign for your station. To make the sign, glue Bright Bulletin Board Letters onto DIY Unfinished Wood Banner Squares. String the banner squares onto jute cording and add in a few plastic shovels as accents. Line the back of your tent with Dig VBS Inside Tent Backdrop.
Cover the top of a folding table with Pacon® Weathered Wood Paper Roll. Cut 3-4 boards from a Better Than Paper® Rustic Wood Bulletin Board Paper and wrap it around the sides of the table. Hide the legs of the table with Medium and Large Brown Wood Crates with Chalkboard Labels.
To keep the check-in process organized, write groups by last name (like A - M) onto Black Chalkboard Table Frames using a chalk marker. Glue the table frames onto Kids' Safari Pith Helmets and place them on the table. Apply Dig VBS Floor Clings onto the ground right on front of each area. This will help kids know where to check in. Use a colorful bucket to house rolled-up Dig VBS Handout Sheets and don't forget the Dig VBS Sticker Journals! They are such a fun way for kids to keep track of the stations they have visited each day.
Supply your check-in volunteers with Rainbow Clipboards, Dig VBS Message Pens, Pickaxe Pencils and Nametags to give the kids! Volunteers also need some distinct way of letting the kids know who they are.
Dress your volunteers in Dig VBS T-shirts, Nametag Lanyards and Outback Hats. Finish off the look with Dig VBS Tube Bananas, Mini Buttons, and Rubber Bracelets. These trinkets also make great handouts for the kids!

Craft Station
Constructing a dig themed VBS craft station is quick and easy and makes a big impact. Use the same decor as the check-in station table to drive the theme home. Use Dig VBS Aged Pillars and a DIY station sign to call out the area.
Prop Sand Buckets and Classroom Storage Caddies filled with supplies and individually packaged craft kits onto a Large Stained Wood Crate with Chalkboard Labels. Decorate the front of the crates with a strip from the Dig VBS Bulletin Board Set.
Place loose sand in Craft Trays to display DIY Ceramic Vases, Small Canvas Drawstring Bags with Bright Trim and Dig VBS Rocks with Crosses. Set the scene with Mini Bright Favor Pails and Galvanized Metal Pails filled with all sorts of crafty supplies such as Plastic & Metal School Scissors, Fine Point Permanent Markers, Fabric Markers, Colorful Chubby Paintbrushes and Dig VBS 4pc. Crayons.
Add height by stacking Stained Wood Centerpiece Boxes and place the bucket of supplies on top. DIY Wood Trays are perfect places to corral all your glue.

Snack Station
Building a snack station that makes kiddos really want to dig in is simple. Decorate the table in a similar fashion to the craft station. To create a stand for your snack station, use an African Safari Arch from a previous VBS theme and cut it down to fit your table.
Add lined wooden boxes and fill them with an array of different snacks. Popcorn with a variety of add-ins ensures there is something for everyone.
Craft Trays are a fun way to serve Treasure Hunt Dirt Cups, while Brown Stained Large Crates and Stained Wood Centerpiece Boxes make the perfect risers.
