Want to give dad an extra special Father’s Day this year? Throw him a big “Dad is Rad” surprise party! My daughters Stella (6), Hazel (4) and got to work early last Saturday morning doing some stealth decorating while their daddy slept in. He awoke to our kitchen table decked out in all things dad, from pennant flags, to giant D-A-D balloons, to his own special trophy and a tower of his favorite donuts. Read on to see how you can create a special Father’s Day party that your dad will love!
Stella, Hazel, and I spent a couple days after school preparing some special surprises for the party like these DIY pennant flags that the girls colored with bright paint markers.
We also made a "Best Dad" trophy, decorated with stickers and pom-poms and filled with chocolates! Find the step-by-step tutorial here.
Here's the happy dad! He proudly displayed the trophy in his man cave after the party. ;)
We decorated the guest of honor's chair with a couple "World's Best Dad" balloons and a gift bag decorated with a Dad accordion card that Stella had carefully colored before the party.
Inside the gift bag were a couple DIY travel mugs that the girls had decorated with markers and stickers. We thought these would be perfect for holding their dad's coffee on his daily commute to work! See how easy these are to make.
The highlight of the table was the donut tower centerpiece. Sticking with store-bought donuts and some fresh brewed coffee made the food prep for the party a cinch!
I used a mix of yellow, blue, and black striped disposable tableware and covered the kitchen table with a round blue tablecloth and black chalkboard runner. I scattered a few more DAD accordion cards around the table for additional table decor (so many uses for these fun cards!).
One of their dad's favorite parts of the party was seeing the "It's All About My Dad" posters that each of the girls had worked so hard on. They had fun walking him through all the things they love about their dad!
These come in a pack of 12, so you have plenty for multiple siblings to make their own, or you can save them and make dad a new one each year!
There is no question who this party is for thanks to these awesome giant mylar letter balloons that spell DAD. You can inflate these a day or two before the party and they'll stay looking great.
For one more pop of "DAD", I stapled the dad accordion cards to a blue pennant flag garland and draped them over the windows.
This was such a fun party to put together with my daughters! We had a blast secretly making all the special DIY decorations for the party, and their daddy couldn't have been more surprised!
He said he can hardly wait for his party again next year. ;)
