Creating a Puppet Stand for Early Childhood Classrooms

Creating a Puppet Stand for Early Childhood Classrooms

I have been waiting to share this post with you for quite some time! After spending seven years in Kindergarten, I moved to PreK this summer. When I found out I was moving, one of the first things I wanted was a puppet stand. I had always wished for one but could never fit it in my room or in my curriculum. I came across a pin on Pinterest about using a TV entertainment center to make a kitchen. It hit me. Why couldn’t I use an entertainment center to make a puppet stand?

The first thing that I did was take off all the doors and paint the entertainment center black. That was the most time consuming part. Once I got the puppet stand into my classroom, I measured half way down in the big opening (where the tv goes) to the floor. My crafty mom made me curtains. I strung those on a tension rod and tada! We have a puppet stand for less than $15! But, what about the other side you say? Well, in my opinion, that is the best part! Let's take a looksie...

Look at all that storage for your puppets! Each shelf holds a container of puppets. I ordered all sorts of puppets for my classroom. I got career puppets (here and here) some around the world puppets (here and here) and then some puppets of different kids. However, my absolute favorite puppet (and my kiddos too!), is the Melissa and Doug Police Officer Puppet! We had so many puppets, that we actually ran out of room. I had to get the tub we use for recess toys and convert that into a Puppet Bucket! (Do you see why I love the Melissa and Doug Police Officer Puppet? Isn't he just too cute?! My kids are loving the puppet stand. I am so glad that I got to add this to my classroom this year!
