Create a dedicated homework station for the kids with these simple and inspiring ideas that help create an organized and functional study environment for at-home learning.
Have you had to transition to at-home learning? Wondering how to keep up with all the assignments, paperwork and supplies? I'm here to show you how to create a dedicated learn at home work station that will help make your new daily routine a little less stressful.
During this quarantine, like many of you, we have had to transition to at-home learning and after day one I quickly realized we needed a better system in place to efficiently and successfully tackle this new way of learning. Creating a dedicated work station with essential supplies on hand will help keep distractions to a minimum and provide an organized place to study.
All the resources and supplies you will need to create a work station for your at-home learning is link or in the shopping list to the right. I found everything I needed from markers to labels to help me create a shared workspace for all of my kids.
Prior to our new circumstances, I had a homework caddy that was full of homework essentials and my kids tackled their homework at the kitchen table. But, as I mentioned after our first day of at-home learning I realized that I needed a better solution to keep them organized and on task while doing their school work. My solution, a mobile learn at home work station.
Start by finding a dedicated spot in your home where your kids can sit and work. Whether you have a desk or plan to use the kitchen table find a place where each day your kids will sit and do their lessons. Having a routine and a set spot to focus helps maintain a similar structure to their school environment.
Next, create a mobile learn at home work station with all the essential materials your student will need for their assignments. I used the American Crafts Rolling Craft Cart to create our homework station. This way it can be moved around as needed, and easily be tucked out of the way.
I filled American Crafts Crafting Cups with essential supplies that my kids use for most assignments, like markers and scissors and hung them from the rolling cart so they are easy to access.
Next, I used the Brown Wooden Crate with Chalkboard Labels to contain additional supplies that the kids will need like colored pencils, crayons, and notebooks. Here's a tip, use metal buckets to help contain the smaller supplies inside the crate.
Each of my kids received their daily journals and notebooks for their at home learning assignments and I needed a way to keep these organized. I used the white Magazine Files to put organize their notebooks. I used my Cricut machine and vinyl to put each of their names on their file folder so they can quickly grab it in the morning before we get started with our day.
I made sure our cart included everything we needed, including some snacks. I filled a half-gallon jar with my kids' favorite snack so that there were no excuses to constantly get up and wander off to the kitchen.
Staying organized is key now that we are all at home working and doing school work. I created a dedicated area in my home office just for the kids with everything they will need to be successful. Including a DIY memo board, I made with Large Craft Cork board Tiles. Here they can post notes, assignments or their finished work.
This transition to at home learning has definitely been an adventure filled with highs and lows. I wanted to make sure that our new "school" felt as welcoming and as inspiring as what they are used to so I filled up my chalkboard and my black letterboard with inspirational quotes to keep us all going!
This is at home learning station passes the test and provides a functional and organized space to facilitate learning!
