Our study of community helpers always ends with my class creating a 3D community of some sort. Check out our awesome 3D community map we made this time.
First, we took long sheets of paper and taped them together so that our city would be long enough for several students to use at once without it being too crowded. We decided to include our coding robots this time and they will follow or drive along markers of certain colors, so we used those colors as our streets. The streets were drawn down the middle of the paper and we were sure to leave enough space along the edges for our Color Your Own 3D Town community buildings.
The Color Your Own 3D Town buildings were so easy for my kiddos to color. They couldn't wait to color the next building!
To add to the fun of our 3D Community, we wore our Career Vests. We dressed up as Police Officers, Firefighters, Doctors/Dentists/Vets, and Construction Workers. The kids loved wearing them and pretended to be that community helper while interacting with the buildings from the 3D Color Your own Town set.
This was a fun activity that gave students a sense of the different types of people and places that make up our own individual communities.
