Want to decorate differently this year? Look no further for the perfect way to add a little color to your fall mantel than these easy DIY projects. Paint quickly and easily by updating plain ceramic pumpkins and wood leaf cutouts. Warmth is brought in to this look by incorporating woven yarn elements. Pair the colorful accents with a few metallics like copper candle holders and birchwood logs for the perfect colorful and cozy fall mantel.
When fall rolls around, I am usually not ready to let my colorful summer decor go. This year I decided to keep the color going all the way through fall, just in a more muted color palette. Shades of bright pink, blue, and yellow colors of summer gave way to mustard, periwinkle, peach, coral, and light pink for fall. Using these more muted colors, I transformed my mantel into a colorful and cozy fall nook.
Acrylic paint was used to easily transform white ceramic pumpkins and give them a dip dyed look. To recreate the look, use a paint brush to paint just the lower half of white ceramic pumpkins feathering the paint slightly around the paint line.
The colorful pumpkins filled the mantel along with a few birch wood logs, a metallic mercury glass mason jar filled with a tea light, and two copper candle hurricanes.
To finish out the simple yet colorful fall mantel, this DIY Fall Leaf Garland was added with the words "Give Thanks" hand lettered on to the leaves. The colors of the leaves are in the same shades of pink, mustard, orange, coral, and blues as the pumpkins tie the two elements together perfectly.
The final touches for this colorful mantel happen to be a few pieces that I already had on hand from a stack of colorful thrift store books, to a house plant, to a few DIY yarn projects like this giant tassel wall hanging made by making large tassels from yarn and tying them around a dowel rod and a woven basket I made by gluing yarn and yarn tassels to a storage basket.
If you don't happen to have any colorful items such as these, just try to add texture in the form of soft fabrics and woven wicker items. The balance of soft and hard and warm and bright are what pull the whole mantel together and give it the warmth of fall but with a colorful touch.
