Classroom Jobs: Everybody Has One

Classroom Jobs: Everybody Has One

Usually, teachers assign a few different helpers with certain tasks such as the door monitor, the lunch count kid etc. But here is a new way to view jobs. Every student has a job! That's right EVERYONE! By dividing up minimal tasks and assigning one to every student in your class, they all feel empowered. It builds a sense of community and gives the shy students an opportunity to lead. It gives them a sense of responsibility on a micro level that can be easily applied to their lives at home and in their community. Part of maintaining a smooth classroom management system in your classroom each day includes implementing a student job system. This looks different from classroom to classroom and even from year to year. Usually, a few helpers work for a week or two and then another handful of students take over. This year, I wanted to try a different approach to student jobs so that every student has a job!

Class Jobs, Everyone Has One!

First, I thought of every little task that is needed in the classroom. I thought of enough little jobs for each one of the students. These range from Lights Manager to Calendar Keeper. I displayed each of these jobs using the Gold Peel & Stick Library Pockets and printable labels. Download the Free Student Job Label Printable here!

I numbered Wooden Craft Sticks for each student in my class. Every week they are responsible for the task labeled on the pocket that their Wooden Craft Stick is in.Classroom Jobs, Everyone Has One

Since the jobs will be maintained all year, I wanted to make this bulletin board stand out. I absolutely love the Rustic Classroom look that the Rustic Double-Sided Bulletin Board Cutouts and Rustic Classroom Desk Plates provide. I displayed the Gold Peel & Stick Library Pockets on top of my absolute favorite Pacon® Fadeless® Weathered Wood Paper Roll.

Classroom Jobs, Everyone Has OneI used the Chalkboard Bulletin Board Letters, that go with absolutely everything, along with some Gold Hanging Fan Assortment and a Small Triangle Pennant Burlap Garland to add texture. I framed it all with the White Dots on Chalkboard Bulletin Board Border.

I am so excited how the bulletin board turned out. It is cute and will perfectly showcase all the jobs each student will have for the entire year!

What I love about dividing up these everyday minimal tasks is that not only does it make the classroom run smoothly, but by assigning a simple job to every student they feel empowered. It builds a sense of classroom community and gives the shy students an opportunity to lead.
