Train Party Backdrop

To give a vintage feel to this party I used rustic wood paper for the backdrop. I just taped a few long strips across the wall for an easy way to decorate.

To go along with the vintage theme, I hung a wood board with some hooks attached. Blue and white striped conductor hats and red bandanas hung from the hooks, just waiting to be worn and taken home by eager party guests.

Train Party Food Ideas

Hungry party goers were excited to snack on some yummy train-themed food!

Chocolate-covered mint Oreos made for tasty "coal cookies," while wafer cookies that were attached with frosting made great "railroad crossing signs."

Light and airy popcorn "engine steam" and pretzel "train tracks" looked perfect in blue and white striped boxes with a free printable attached. A railroad crossing sign pick stuck inside matched the large railroad signs I made perfectly!

Train Party Decorations

White cake plates held the food and were stacked on top of white and blue suitcases that looked like luggage, waiting to be loaded on a train. I used tape to cover the gold on two black trunks then spray painted them blue to match the party. I love how cute these turned out!

Rustic wood place card holders held matching food labels on the party table. Download the free Printable Food Labels Here.

Stacked lunch box tins with a free printable on the front said "Thank CHOO for coming aboard" and had a vintage railroad train centered on the front of the design. Download the free printable favor box labels here.

Inside each box was a train-shaped whistle, a coal stress ball, a train wind-up toy, and some candy.

My favorite decoration from our train party were the DIY Train Track Runners that were on each party table.

These cute centerpieces matched the theme perfectly and looked like old, worn wood tracks. I placed a colorful wood train toy on top of the tracks for the main party table. Learn how to make your own set (or two) with our easy tutorial!

I also made two large and two smaller yellow railroad crossing signs to go on each party table. I started with two wood discs and two wood signs, then spray painted them both yellow.

I used black electrical tape to create the two black lines then cut two black R's for each sign from vinyl with my Cricut machine. You could also use black letter stickers too. These are such a fun addition to each train party table!

Train Party Table

Running down the middle of the kids' train party table was another DIY Train Track Runner.

Red bandanas folded in half then in half again made great chargers for the table. Blue and yellow plates were stacked on top of the bandanas.

On each yellow plate was a Train Party Favor Bag filled with Tootsie Roll "logs." Learn how to make your own Train Party Favor Bags here.

Train-shaped cups with a straw in the top were a hit with the kiddos and looked amazing on the table as decor.

Train Party Game

I adapted a carnival bean bag toss game to make a fun train party game. I used wood paper to cover each carnival can. We stacked them up, then used coal stress balls instead of bean bags to knock them over. It was so much fun!
