Whether you're celebrating the holidays with family or you're hosting a Friendsmas gathering this year, it's important to let your loved ones know how much they mean to you! Sending Christmas cards is a great way to do this, so invite your fave gals over for a cozy brunch filled with friendship, laughter and writing Christmas cards together!
I'm all for the Danish way of life (known as hygge, pronounced hoo-gah) that celebrates all things cozy while enjoying and appreciating the simple things in life. Natural wood tones, comfy pillows and a Scandinavian approach to decorating for the holidays set the tone for our Christmas Card Writing Party. And what could be more comforting than a soft and feminine color palette of pale pink, white and creme with hints of gold? Guests were in such a state of bliss they barely noticed how quickly the time flew by as they wrote out their cards! Guests felt as if they'd been instantly transported to a winter wonderland the moment they arrived!
To set the mood, we created a stunning chandelier that floated over our low dining table. The chandelier was crafted by simply stringing DIY Unfinished Wood Snowflakes and Jumbo Jingle Bells onto a small tree branch that was wrapped with a Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Garland.
To kindle the gathering's Scandinavian vibe, we kept the overall decorations in our space uncluttered and minimal without sacrificing beauty.
The wood tones from our wood slice fireplace insert and birch pillars turned votive candle holders added a rustic element that balanced all the white in our room.
A simple Gold Hoop with Silver Dollar Eucalyptus strung from pink ribbon graced the space over our mantle. A DIY House Assortment, painted white and pink and dusted with craft snow, lined the mantle with sisal trees and snowman ornaments tucked into their nooks.
Unfinished wood beads, wool felt pom poms, jumbo jingle bells and DIY Metal Tree Ornaments were strung onto yarn to create three separate garlands that were then layered in front of our fireplace. Creamy white stockings, dressed up with DIY yarn tassels and pink DIY Unfinished Wood Snowflakes, hung in front to complete the look.
Keeping with the understated Scandinavian style of our decor, we created a modern Christmas tree that hung on the wall. This simple DIY project was an instant fave with our guests! The sign was a cinch to create by gluing DIY Unfinished Wood Box Frames together in three rows and then painting them in two shades of pink. A minimalistic tree was then painted in the center with green paint and then mini gold ornaments were glued here and there. Easy peasy, yet completely adorable!
We nestled a pair of chairs in an alcove for guests that wanted to have more intimate chats. A cute DIY Unfinished Wood Box Frame snowflake sign sat comfortably on a small table beside a Large Round Birch Pillar turned candle holder in between the chairs.
To further elevate the cozy hygge vibe of the party, piles of comfy pillows were placed around our dining table.
The Tablescape
Our tablescape was given a soft pop of color by draping the table with a pink gauze table runner.
We then placed three Gold Metallic Vases filled with sprigs of eucalyptus and Christmas greenery in the center of the table.
Jingle bells, sisal trees, DIY Unfinished Wood Snowman Ornaments and pinecones were then sprinkled down the length of the table for a touch of whimsy.
Glass Taper Candle Holders, spray painted off-white, held light pink candles and were perched on Unfinished Wood Slices.
Battery Operated Round Flameless Candles were placed atop small round birch pillars at each end of the table to round out the look.
The Place Settings
Guests were smitten with our cozy table and felt snug nestled in all the comfy pillows under the festive chandelier.
We kept the place settings neutral to balance out all the pink in the room. Simple white square paper plates were topped with scalloped wooden plates we had on-hand.
Creme Polka Dot Dinner Napkins rested between the layered plates and offered a touch of charm. Pretty gold forks sat to the side of each place setting.
Simple place cards sat atop each plate and were crafted by first painting DIY Unfinished Wood Snowflakes with pink paint and then writing out each of the guest's name with a white chalk marker.
Pretty pink sips were served in Premium Clear Crystal Plastic Wine Glasses and Premium Clear Plastic Tumblers.
Although we served an array of brunch favorites, guests couldn't help drooling over our homemade raspberry cream cheese coffee cake!
Christmas Card Writing Station
Once everyone was done with brunch, they moved their plates aside, grabbed their cards and visited the Christmas Card Writing Station to give cards a merry makeover!
Grey Ceramic Centerpiece Trays and Clear Cylinder Vases were filled with various trimmings such as gold washi tape, winter decals, Christmas ornament stickers, markers, snowflake confetti and craft snow so guests could embellish their cards and envelopes. A free printable Christmas card sign sat nearby in a White Table Frame. Download the Christmas card station sign for free here!
Spending time together, as well as laughing and chatting helped guests forget that writing Christmas cards can often be a boring task!
For an extra bit of fun, guests scooped craft snow into envelopes before sealing them. Be sure to check out the details to set up your own Christmas Card Writing Station here.
To bring some additional dimension to our space, we leaned an antique ladder behind our writing station, The ladder made the perfect display for our thank you gifts. The ladder was dressed up with painted metal tree ornaments and a simple garland crafted from wood beads strung onto yarn.
The thank you gifts were tucked into DIY Mini Canvas Drawstring Canvas Bags that had a simple Christmas tree painted onto them.
We hope you've been inspired to host your own cozy, hygge Christmas brunch full of friendship and laughter this holiday season!
