You've heard of elf on the shelf...well meet bunny on the bookshelf! This adorable bunny will encourage your students to work hard every day by dropping off fun little treats when students are on their best behavior. Do you love teaching but dread your students' behavior after spring break? Are classroom chants and callbacks no longer working? Hop into spring with this fun classroom idea to keep your students' behavior on track.
As we make our way closer and closer to summer it becomes harder for our students to stay focused and engaged throughout the school day. As teachers, we need a few tricks to help us keep our students engaged and learning. This spring introduce bunny on a bookshelf to your classroom! It's a fun way to inspire your students to make the right choices throughout the day. The concept is simple. For a week or two after spring break the classroom will be visited by a bunny that hangs out around the classroom. Each day the bunny will be in a new spot for your students to find. Each day when he arrives he brings a note with a fun treat for the classroom rewarding positive behavior. If for some reason your class has an off day the bunny simply does not return.
Grab the FREE Bunny On a Bookshelf Printable with a list of ideas to get you started. You can do this for 5 days or more. It works as a great short-term incentive as well as a long one. The bunny can bring a sweet note or message. There are a few fun pre-printed messages you can download or create your very own by hand writing a message from the bunny.
Here are a few fun ideas to get your class started. For Day 1, have your bunny hand deliver some fun spring themed pencils and bunny erasers. Add one of the FREE printable notes encouraging your students to use their neatest handwriting on their work. Just place the treat for your class into a fun bunny treat box and you're all set. By sending them new supplies through their bunny you will encourage your students to get engaged and give you their very best effort.
For Day 2, encourage good behavior with a fun spring craft. Take a break from your typical routine and let your students spend a few minutes getting creative. The felt magnetic bunny kit was a perfect, quick craft for my students. We're using them on our class board to highlight excellent spring work. Use their spring creations to create a fun classroom display or bulletin board around your classroom.
Everyone loves a new fun pen, so for Day 3 hand out these fun pom pom bunny pens! Encourage your classroom to keep making positive choices by sending in a few fun items they can use during special small group times. For example, fun fluffy bunny pens are the perfect addition to a small group workshop table. Let them use these fun pens on special assignments.
For Day 4, help spread kindness and positive vibes throughout your classroom. Send your bunny in with a special note to be kind. The "Be Kind" embroidery hoop helps to spread the word and looks adorable sitting on a classroom shelf or hanging on the wall. Encourage your students to send a kind note to their peers by having your bunny bring a few bunny cutouts or bunny notepads. Each student can draw a classmate's name and write them a kind note to stick on their desk. These kind words of motivation mean the world to your students and help create a positive classroom atmosphere.
For Day 5, the bunnies have multiplied! Each student receives their own little Easter Stuffed Bunny to keep as a reminder of their excellent classroom choices. For the last day, the bunnies bring in bubbles for everyone! I encourage my students to use these bubbles to help with their worries and their problems. As they blow their bubbles I ask for them to envision the things that worry them or influence them to make bad choices. As they fill their bubbles with their worries and negativity I ask them to watch their bubbles float away in the distance; watching their worries and their negative thoughts drift away until they finally POP! This is a great way to end the week and encourage the next week to be even better!
